The OT: The 2017 NBA Draft

June 18, 2017

This will be the first year, in any sport, that I take a peek at a Draft. There is lots of buzz around a lot of players this year. Time to move on from E3, and this week, basketball will be heavily in the news and on my mind.

And coming from the world of jump shots, check this out.

PUBG + Mixer x 4 > AOGRN (all other games right now)

I really hope that Bluehole slams a homer when mapping the controls to the gamepad. Zos, you mentioned that people can already play with a gamepad, would you be interested in testing it to see how it feels?

Finally, thanks for the earphone tip, Blank.  I looked around.  It considerably cheaper for me to have them shipped from Amazon US than to get them from Amazon Japan.  I am going to wait, however, until PUBG becomes available.  I can’t locate my dongle, er, um, I can’t find the adapter so I will just buy a new controller and the earbuds at the same time.  Celebrate the occasion.  I have a question, can you change the volume party chat/game sound ratio using that system?

Changing the volume is a headache if you attach it directly to the controller without the adapter. You would have to go into the settings under the ‘Devices & Peripherals’ to change the game & party chat volume. In other words, find that adapter!😕

So, are you using one of the new controllers and the adapter?

      Yes, sir!

    • June 18, 2017 9:47 pm

Understood. Will dig till I find it. Great solution to the problem.

I’ll test tonight w/ gamepad. I’ll prob stream for a bit, but not terribly late. Early morning exam

Thanks! Be careful with the time. Maybe you should wait until after you write your exam. LOL!

And I have dropped some thoughts on the PUBG page.

Ashen sounds interesting. The showing during the E3 Microsoft presser didn’t capture my imagination, but this is has me wanting to know more.

Dicks swing freely on August 16th.

Not sure if I am interested. Looking forward to hearing the price and knowing who else is jumping in. It will be broken out of sight, and if people want in, the next thing I would suggest is that they wait until it has proven to be solid.

Will have to download and try it out. Sends a message to Microsoft that Hitman is valued.

Is anyone interested in this as a Monopoly/Peggle substitute?

Right now, Hitman is 60% off at $24! That’s one heck of a deal considering that Giant Bomb & I agreed that it was GoTY. Show MS that Agent 47 needs to be the next iconic Xbox-exclusive IP by purchasing it, Suns.😏

While we’re on the topic of games, several games that are out of the norm such as Friday the 13th and Dead By Deadlight, have intrigued several of us in this community. Another game that brings something new is Crytek’s upcoming game, Hunt: Showdown. I know that you posted an E3 vid of the game a week ago, Suns. Game Informer has an in-depth article about it:

      When is Showdown releasing?

Release is set for 2018. The game looks cool.

    • June 20, 2017 6:32 pm

Thanks for the date, and yeah, it looks cool.

Back on topic of this post. Shannon thinks LeBron is getting ready to leave at the latest in 2018. Then I listened to this one, and I started thinking, what if Ballmer brought LeBron and Melo and Wade (banana boat) (eff the cap and luxury tax) to the Clippers? Would you cheer for LeBron, Kenny?

    • June 20, 2017 6:28 pm

      Follow up.

How much money would Ballmer make in merch etc, if he just pulled all stops and paid top salaries and luxury to get and market the Banana Boat for a year, to take down the Warriors?! Any expenses he incurred would be hugely offset by the sales! The NBA would bring in a TON of casuals and non-fans because of the buzz. I think it would be genius, and Ballmer and the Clippers would have a serious shot at the Championship, and money would flow.

I’ve always been an unabashed Lebron hater. However, I’m a Clippers fan through & through since they made the move from San Diego to my hometown. Team comes first regardless of its players. Even though all four of the banana boat crew have expressed that they all wanted to play together at the end of their careers, don’t you think CP3 would have pushed for that Melo trade last season? Makes you think why that didn’t happen, right? Now it’s not outside the realm of possibility, but Wade’s knees are shot. Despite Lebron juicing, he’s turning 34 next year, CP3 is turning 33 next year, & Melo; well let’s face it, he’s a ball hog & not a true leader.

Make no mistake about Lebron’s intention though. He will leave Cleveland after next season. He wanted the GM Griffin to stay, but Dan Gilbert refused to sign an extension. Gilbert is essentially showing Lebron that as the owner, he’s ultimately calling the shots. That chest thumping will result in Lebron leaving a second time.

Ballmer, Doc, & West would have to completely blow up the team by trading Blake & Deandre to create cap space despite Ballmer declaring that the luxury tax doesn’t mean shit to him. Also, absolutely no team is going to touch Jamal Crawford’s ridiculous $26 mil contract now that he’s showing his decline from this season’s poor performance. Doc screwed up by allowing nepotism to get in the way by giving his son, Austin, a dumbass contract which set the domino effect with everyone opening their palms asking, “What about me?” Stupid.

    • June 20, 2017 7:45 pm

Kenny, thanks for taking the time to discuss it. Good points, all. I would just like to see some cool stuff happen for the Clippers, regardless of who it would involve, or how much money it might cost. Getting West on board is a very exciting way to start the 2017/18 season! (I had almost forgotten about him!)

    Interesting pre-draft movement:

Dwightbola Virus (Bill Simmon’s name) Wizards to the Hornets! Go Jordan!

D’Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov Lakers to the Nets

@zosofan, Congrats on being done the big exam!
I doubt that the NBC will last, but it is a fantastic start and symbolic of how (deservedly) popular that game is!

@blankman6, thanks for linking that article on Hunt which I could only skim at the time but have read since. The game sounds better than I thought, though it also promises perhaps more than it can deliver. Great read. Here’s more:

I laughed out loud when I saw that one of IceCube’s Player/Coaches may not even make his first game.

  9. June 21, 2017 6:46 pm

Time to haul out the popcorn! (The NBA execs must be thrilled with the coverage this kind of competitive talk gets them, even if it is a little vulgar. And my question is, was it delicious?)

And apparently, the Celitcs are interested in Porzingis. How fricking funny would it be to have the tallest and the shortest players on the same team on the court at the same time. It would look like one of those pictures in Guinness Book of World Records.

I think it is possible to undo one’s legacy. If I ever thought that maybe the Bulls and the Lakers wins were because of Phil Jackson, I don’t believe it any more. He had the biggest names in the game. What he is doing in New York is the actions of someone suffering from a mental illness. His actions are completely inexplicable, even if one used his love for the triangle as an excuse.

So, it pleases me when people see through the smoke and mirrors.

  11. June 22, 2017 4:26 pm

This is the kind of thing that is possible when you get rid of a guy on your team who doesn’t get along well with others. Star or no star, you can’t go far without teamwork. I hope it happens for the Kings.

  12. June 22, 2017 4:28 pm

And this may be the funniest tweet this week.

(Please let the controls be good, please.) At least, he is playing the game we want, unlike Rare that spends their work time playing soccer and watching TV. Get Sukt.

EDIT: This is the headset he uses, but imma get Skullcandy.

  13. June 22, 2017 11:30 pm

Yo sho Is a rookie LMAO!

And, its done. What matters in the draft is basically over. Lakers got their wish. I want to see Lonzo’s first game in the NBA. He will definitely be the player I love to root against!

All is quiet on the Clipper’s front. Ballmer, time to open your wallet and secure LeBron before you have to walk under his Lakers jersey every time you watch the Clippers play. If he’s going to California, I don’t want him on the Lakers.

Still hoping that Porzingis can get a new team, and the Boston/Thomas heightism thing would be hilarious. Didn’t see the Jimmy Butler trade coming.

  14. June 22, 2017 11:42 pm

I thought I was done, but Golden State was not, so…they just acquired THIS GUY!!!

I think he’ll fit in just fine.

  15. June 23, 2017 6:34 pm

One thing we didn’t really discuss was trades/moving from the player’s perspective.

  16. June 23, 2017 6:37 pm

PUBG squad mode is insane. Can’t wait to describe in chat tonight. Who’s on?
