Anticipation List

June 12, 2017

A wafer thin post. What are the games you are most anticipating?

I know that E3 isn’t finished yet, but I am not really concerned about the exclusives coming to Sony’s platform, nor those going to the PC. For the most part, E3 is done. It’s done.

Listing the games I want is therapeutic. It helps me prioritize, and deal with the excitement of so many interesting games. I will edit this list as time goes on.

    Most anticipated:
    1. Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds
    2. Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus
    3. Deep Rock Galactic

Want to know more, and probably will buy:
    Sea of Thieves
    Battlefront 2
Frostbite is ridiculous and with Anthem, I am reminded of the first time I saw The Division – beauty becomes gameplay. The potential for fun in Sea of Thieves is huge, but they have a very long way to go. Buying into the game 1 or 2 years after release may be the way to go. Literally Star Wars on joystick, iF there are server browsers, and because of the free after-release content, a first for EA.

    Curious to know more about:
    State of Decay 2
    Black Desert
    The Darwin Project
    Metro: Exodus (MPvs?)

Looks totally awesome but almost certainly won’t be buying:
    Shadow of War
    A Way Out
    Forza 7
I got my ass kicked on a Doritos game, there is no way I am going to succeed at Cuphead, fantastic as the art design may be. Also, I still have 2 or 3 Rayman games on my HD but still unplayed, and they are also awesome. Forza would be much higher on my list, if I had a seat and a wheel.

    Couldn’t care less about:
    AC: Origins
    Crackdown 3
Won’t play AC:O, even for free – I already have three AC games unplayed. I think Crackdown is a bust – I think the promotional video about taking down buildings was left unedited from over a year ago when they made it, but in reality, doesn’t even happen, or at least not on the scale they are talking about – this is a less colorful Sunset Overdrive, with less content but more guns.

Don’t forget, there will be LOTS of reveals to come at Sony’s press conference for games that are coming to Xbox (and the X).

    • June 12, 2017 12:49 am

You mean to the xXBox One Xx?

Good point! I will edit those in over the next couple of days.

    • June 12, 2017 12:55 am

Nah, it will from now on be called “the x”.

  3. June 12, 2017 12:55 am

    Zos’ List.

*I will be editing for a while, but this just made it darn near the top:

You have to watch the whole thing, cool story, great graphics / voice acting, game play looks fun.

    —- Very excited:

    -Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
    -Player Unknownโ€™s Battlegrounds

    —- Curious to see more:

    -State of Decay 2
    -Forza 7
    -Black Desert
    -The Darwin Project

    • June 12, 2017 1:00 am

Wolfenstein just popped up in my YouTube Subscriptions. Haven’t watched it yet. Difficult to do so now. Will watch before I go to bed. Glad to hear it looks good. One of my favorite games was Return to Castle Wolfenstein on the PC. So good!

    • June 12, 2017 1:05 am

There is a few weird mins before any gameplay. Whole thing is 8 minutes, but worth it imo. IDK plans for MP or anything, but for a story driven shooter, it is hard to catch my attention and this has it fully.

    • June 12, 2017 7:15 am

Sh! is crazy and jumped to number 2. List edited. You have to realize, I played the original “3D” Wolfenstein back in the day, the game that started it all, literally the one before Doom. And the gameplay for this is bea-u-ti-fully aping that original, right down to the big X on the wall. (I write that without having read any impressions anywhere.)

    • June 12, 2017 1:53 pm

Announced at PC Gamer Conference for PUBG:

      — 3D/2D replay. Slowmo, full free camera movement of entire map. cinematic moments relived.
      — Vaulting, climbing!, jumping out windows (YAAAAS)
      — new weather types and variation
      — OTS gun
      — User mods coming!
      — Two New Maps (desert / snow)

    • June 12, 2017 2:54 pm

The X Factor, changes to Ark:

Geoff tried to get him to say it was similar to PS4 Pro, but dev did good job explaining.

      Long Story Short:

Xbox One X runs ark 60FPS+ and with the “Epic” AKA highest PC settings. Xbox One played at similar to Medium.

This is something Microsoft did not really do well in expressing IMO. The experience you get at these high fidelity settings is very different. These aren’t features you have to buy or pay for, you get them with just having the X. There are a lot of titles already announced, I bet closer to launch even more.

    • June 12, 2017 4:17 pm

MS can’t praise the new system to greatly yet because it puts down their current product. Next year at E3, and before that at GDC, they should pimp the power like CRAZY. But right now, they want people to buy the One and the S.

However, outstanding news about all these games (and the hardware).

Agreed. MS cannot cannibalize the XB1 S by going bat shit crazy game touting the X. Zos, rED, & me were talking last night that MS most likely can’t initially produce enough X units. Grown ass gamers don’t care if the X is $100 more than we’d like. The premium console isn’t made for Joe Sixpack; at least for the time being.

    • June 12, 2017 7:30 pm

Microsoft mentioned a “special pre-order program” coming later this year.I bet some kind of trade-in program, where you ship back your current XBO after you get the X for a discount retail price. $399 w/ trade-in of launch XBO. Either that or they will play nice with gamestop and let them do that for profit.

@zosofan Amazon is doing a trade-in deal already on the Xbone X’s page. I can potentially trade in my Day One Edition Xbone, my Xbone S and my 360 slim for almost $350, and pay $150 out of pocket for the X. Very tempting… Especially since I’ve found some reasonable 4k monitors that aren’t crazy $$$$.

Will NOT be buying SWBF again.

Here’s my short list of anticipated games.

    – PUBG
    – Anthem
    – Wolfenstein II
    – Cuphead
    – Metro:Exodus

    – State of Decay 2
    – Ashen (love the art style)

  6. June 12, 2017 7:28 pm

    Sony E3 Wants:

–Exclusives I want to see: God Of War and Spider-man should both look awesome.
    –Call of Duty WW2
–Red Dead (pretty much a lot of the stuff where SONY has marketing rights).

    — PS4 Pro Price decrease could be a “mic drop” playing on the “premium price” of the xbox console.
–A few trailers for far off content.

    Unlikely, but would be interesting:

–PS5 mention or announcement. I don’t think it would be a good move.

    • June 13, 2017 10:59 am

Sony’s press conference was underwhelming imo (also seems to be general press reaction). The only unknown game that was shown (beyond some weird VR stuff) was another remaster for shadow of the colossus. Sony blew their load last E3 trying to cram in a bunch of games that wouldn’t even be ready a year later. Most of their big drops from last year weren’t even at the show entirely. Also, no price drop or news to try and counter the X announcement. Microsoft must have calculated that this would be the case.

Regardless, Microsoft did have a good lineup of exclusive and also interesting new games. It was a pretty diverse mix too. My prediction is that Microsoft is still base building with their own internal studios and is focusing their plans on what to unveil 2018.

For Ubisoft they had a better than normal showing imo. But most of the content is not new or that relevant to most here. They are going all in on the Switch. Miyamoto coming on stage was cool, and more surprising was that the collaboration game was a strategy game. The big reveal was Beyond Good and Evil 2. Just a CGI trailer (and some brief game play when they are talking on stage).

But the vibe, art and universe looks cool. Kind of like fifth element.

    • June 13, 2017 6:57 pm

More below, but I have to emphasize how important it was for MS to recognize and secure PUBG as an exclusive. They had to do that.

  7. June 12, 2017 8:22 pm

I finally put it into words. The secret to PUBG fun is that you never lose, you only win bigger, until you get a chicken dinner! So full of win!

    • June 13, 2017 3:03 pm

Holy cow. Zombies (AI) coming to PUBG announced. This after announcing full mod supports, replays, and new game mechanics (climb, mantle, window jump guns, weather and TOD dynamics).

They just keep pushing new content.

    • June 13, 2017 3:05 pm

    • June 13, 2017 3:18 pm

Holy Cow again! Rocket league switch edition also same build as Steam/Xbox. Cross play coming! We can play against Switch users!!! The pool expands

    • June 13, 2017 6:50 pm

Love the extended impressions above, Zos! Agreed. There was a poll in my Twitter feed, not connected to any publisher, and MS was winning by thousands of votes. Not that those mean anything, but just that, as we felt when we watched it, it was a solid performance. And appearance does matter. We aren’t going to win Sony fanbois, and they aren’t going to win Xbox fanbois, but if we can swing some of the fence sitters, it helps fill the communities of our games.

MS doesn’t have a ton of exclusives, though I am starting to think they do, but what they do have for sure is heavy hitters like Minecraft and PUBG (and Sea of Thieves which will be very cool once it gets fleshed out – also, MS commitment to the game is huge, so it will continue to get love over the years).

PUBG, as long as the core group of programmers/designers stay in the company, and I am confident that they will, the content they produce is going to be mind-boggling. They will be delivering big on the Zombie mod, and the community will pump out stuff like a factory once they can start making their own mods. (Look at what is happening with Ark. That game is so huge now and there is zero end in sight.)

Hype is a dangerous thing, but the fact is, we love PUBG as it is, in its pimply, braces, too skinny current situation. How much more so, when the braces come off, etc. etc.. Yep. I am excited about PUBG, a go-to game.

EDIT: I changed the pic. The other one was creepin’ me out a bit.

That isn’t hype, that is discernment and perseverance.

And yes to Rocket League! WOOT! Been playing with Cornie for about an hour every night. Having a whole lot of fun. Matchmaking is always good, matches are found quick, and even with our disparate skills, we are both having a ton of fun.

    • June 13, 2017 10:16 pm

I just watched the CoD:WW2 clips and it looks great. However, even playing the objective modes, I am still a huge liability to my team. My days of fighting through the pain humiliation are over.

    • June 13, 2017 11:04 pm

Oh, and I am on board for COD WW2 based on what I am seeing…

@ Suns A bit?!? I was wondering if you were showing us a dark side of you by posting a pic of Charlize as a little girl (shudders). Ummm, is there something that we should NOT know about? We don’t want to be accessories to any potential crimes. LMAO

Sorry Zos & rED, please don’t count me in on the triple dip of any CoD. Ever.๐Ÿ˜ฌ

    • June 13, 2017 11:32 pm

      Hahaha! I know! LOL! Dang!

And yes to No to CoD.

    • June 13, 2017 11:36 pm

I just realized, this means that the Xbox Gears of War and Halo Cars will be in the games of players on the Nintendo Switch. If Nintendo provides Nintendo exclusive cars, we could see Nintendo IP cars against us! Super, super cool.

  8. June 13, 2017 10:37 pm

Xbox Engineer literally builds the X and walks through the components. Pretty sweet.

    Starts at 2:39:00 (2hr, 39 min)

  9. June 14, 2017 12:09 am

Random: PUBG is doing a Zombie (custom rules mode like that JackFrags vid) like Mixer co-stream right now:

    • June 14, 2017 12:58 am

      I know! Are you in?!

    • June 14, 2017 1:25 am

      Nah, still working =X.

PS: They confirmed the Zombie mode coming is NOT AI, but Player controlled zombies. YASSSSS

Have Corn-dog check if this is significant:

By the time that bullshit DLC for Destiny 2 comes to the Xbox platform, Anthem will be ready for release. Boycott Activision/Bungie for doing that garbage deal with Sony! No need to support this kind of shitty treatment to gamers. ๐Ÿ˜ก

    • June 14, 2017 3:30 am

Ha ha! Will check. The problem is, from a pure gameplay perspective, Destiny (original) apparently has some significant innovations and changes to the skirmish/arena formula. Lots of reasons to hate the game, but gameplay wasn’t one of them.

Anyway, will check, and personally, I don’t want to give Bungie/Activision the steam off my shit…for any reason! LOL!

As for the Zombie mode, I really don’t know how they are going to work it so that there is always a pool of 96 people willing to play the Zombies, while only 4 get to play the gun wielding survivors. Very curious how they will overcome the inherent challenges.

    • June 14, 2017 12:31 pm

I’m curious if it is 4 VS 96, it may be a different take on player controlled zombies all together. With Mod support however, we will likely see the 4 vs 96 make it on custom servers.

Can’t provide linkage because at work and lazy. Funny responses from Sony regarding the X and cross-play. These are obviously not quotes lol

The X: Developers will focus on the lowest common denominator (essentially admitting the X is a significant leap) and that the X won’t be taken advantage of.This is utter bullshit. The same reason that the “PC is held back by consoles” argument rarely holds true. Most gamers on PC don’t have ultra rigs. Period. The biggest complaint with PUBG is that the performance is poor on all but high-end machines. They are still optimizing, but the X won’t be held back by the PS4 Pro/ PS4/XBO.

Cross-Play: The reason they aren’t opening up their games to cross play with everyone else is to protect consumers and children. This argument makes no sense at all. First of all, they have games that cross-play with PC, likely the most likely source of any possible malicious behavior. Second, the avg age and user base is roughly the same across the XBO/PC. If anything, the Switch will have a younger and audience.

Microsoft is playing their cards strategically and without any direct attacks at Sony. Should be interesting to see how it plays out over the next 1-2 years especially.

    • June 14, 2017 4:03 pm

Sony, like Valve, lies without blinking, with great fluency.

Microsoft won E3, but it is tenuous. Everyone knows, or at least assumes, that the next machine from Sony will be more powerful than the One X*. When that will be announced, and when will it be available is very important. This “games are better on our machine” is cool, but only lasts until Sony puts out a machine that is better, and then the same arguments work against them. I figure Microsoft has a one year honeymoon. After that, they get a grouchy wife with curlers in her hair and an ugly polyester bath robe. They gotta make it work, and if their “exclusives” are really only timed exclusives (Kenny was describing the meaning of the wording), then just about the time Sony’s new machine launches, the games will no longer be exclusive.

The next year is going to be fun for Xbox gamers. After that, who knows.

Ultimately, however, I don’t care. The big games that I want to play are on Xbox (even if they are also on PS) with very slick online services and support, and so are my friends.

*It should be noted that if the One had been almost any other than Mattrick’s machine, it might well have bankrupted Sony. Put them not just out of the console business, but out of business altogether.

Conan Exiles just confirmed that the XB1/X console versions will have nudity intact. So let those schlongs swing freely.๐Ÿ˜‚

As in regards to Sony denying crossplay, that was the stance that MS had for mod support back in the 360 days. Sony invited mod support to thumb their nose at the 360, yet now they’re killing any crossplay whatsoever to “protect the consumer & experience.” Utter bullshit. Regardless, I hope this opens doors for both Xbox & Nintendo in future collaborations.

    • June 14, 2017 6:06 pm

      Yep, to all.

And I’m not even going to wear pants.

Just like in real life, right? Captain Morgan-ing all over the house, Suns. No wonder Johann & Tim bounced as soon as they could! ๐Ÿ˜‚

BTW: Not to add anymore hype to Anthem, but Drew Karpyshyn (writer for Mass Effect 1 & 2 and KOTOR) is working on the game! The guy definitely has cred!๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ

    • June 14, 2017 7:42 pm

After our chat yesterday, I couldn’t get the game out of my head. I look forward to hearing lots more about it. I am subscribed to the YouTube, but will have to check on the Twitter (Edit: Following now). Keep us posted! Thanks for the info!

They have created a fantastic setting for the stuff to unfold, including the anomaly/wormhole stuff.
