The OT: The Finals

May 30, 2017

Time for a new thread. E3 won’t be here for a little while yet, so I can probably squeeze in one more basketball post before new info on video games starts busting out all over. So, here we go: the NBA Finals.

I have no interest in predicting who is going to win. People with far more knowledge and experience in that role have (been wrong and) lost millions. I do, however, have some thoughts I want to share: concerns and hopes for the 2017 series.

First, I am concerned about all of the athletes playing their heart out (or not), especially when their team is being beaten. All of those Ballin’ finalists have either spun out for lack of durability (injury), lack of courage, or lack of self-control at one point or another. So, I want to see if this time, they can go the distance. If they are being beaten, do they get up and grab the stick from their oppressor and in turn, beat them with it? Or do they put their towel over their bowed head and let the minutes run out? If they do the former and not the latter, then as a paying fan, this will be the best Finals series that I have ever seen.

As for my hopes, what I want, as opposed to expect, is for the Golden State Warriors to sweep the Cavaliers. Going 16-0 is the only way they can take the Championship and shut up their critics. Taking the Championship any other way will give naysayers all sorts of “Yeah, but…” room for complaint. (EDIT: Since I first wrote this, the Clowns from Undisputed argued that Steph has more to lose from a loss and LeBron has more to gain from a win – and I agree, hence their need to sweep.)

Similarly, I want Stephan Curry and Durant to play so out of their minds that the voters don’t know who to choose for MVP. Playing so consistently well that you never get behind is different than making big plays when down; it doesn’t earn a person the “clutch” moniker. However, it has to count for something. What if a player is so great, he doesn’t have to be clutch? That is the kind of thing I am talking about.

Anyway, this is a huge series that will have a great impact on the legacy of all these players, far more so than in some of the years past. The best thing about it is, though there will be a winner and a loser, it does not have to be a zero sum result. Individual and team performances, regardless of the outcome (and that even includes being on the winning team) will determine to what extent each player buffs or tarnishes his legacy.

And since we always have to have art, this is one of the better “Preview” videos out there: much less basketball porn, and much more what is possible in the sport. I recommend turning the volume down or off.

And back to the gaming news. Crossout is now available on Xbox. When I did a search for a promo video, I couldn’t find anything newer than 2016. Not a good sign. Found one.

And, this video is pretty cool. I didn’t know that you could “pre-open” doors in one of the complexes on the map proper. Fascinating.

Near the end of the first quarter (game 4). Thompson and Smith are utter bitches for not having played in games 1,2, and 3 like they are playing in this 1st period of game four.

The first three games it was James with a some help from Kyrie. All the people, Shaq and Charles included, who called the Cavs to win the series must have been vexed as they watched the worthless support cast lay three effin’ eggs in a row.

You know, I just hate lazy, shoddy, half-ass, coffee cup in my hand, girl on my arm, strollin’ onto the court, shows by anyone in the League. I can’t believe I am raging at those morons. I can’t even imagine what it must be like for a Cavs fan and the wasted three games that have come before.

I hope the Warriors shut their shit down so hard in this fourth game, and those fukcing jokers have to live for the rest of their lives knowing that they totally could have beat the Warriors this year.

One more thing, this is finally the test of the pudding. Have the boys grown up or not. Are they going to shut it down now, or are they going to let it drag out. (I am no longer concerned about them not winning the Championship, though maybe I should be.)

NOTE: I wrote that when there was still 4 minutes left in the 1st. I am now under a minute and the Cavs have set an NBA record for the most points (48 it became 49!) in the first quarter. The quarter hasn’t even finished yet.

Suns, why the hell are you getting all worked up about a damn team that you’re NOT even a fan of?!? Are you asking to stroke out? My goodness. I worry about your health, bruh. 🤔

      I was raging! LOL!

Ok, I watched up to the middle of the third and couldn’t stand the suspense anymore. I jumped ahead and the Warriors lost 117 to 137. A credit to them, that even 20 points down mid third period, in my mind, it was still possible. A credit to the Cavs that with that win, people actually think it is possible for them to win the series. And it is.

In the long run, from the perspective of the glass half full, if the Warriors actually win the series, no one can say their opponent was soft. Everyone has now seen the fully operational Cavalier battle station, and now, taking the Championship will have more meaning. If they lose, well, whew, I can’t go there right now. If the Cavs lose, everyone will know that they could’ve won.

Warriors gotta go home, get rested, draw up a game plan that addresses the whole Cavs team instead of a 5v3, and step on some Cleveland throat. It won’t be easy because that is some alligator throat, and it thrashes and drags you under.

Historic first half: 86-68 for the Cavs and that is because FINALLY they are playing like they can. Nobody can say that the Warriors had soft opponents. Cavs have all they need, they just were trying to play 3v3 when the game is 5v5.

Ok, next time I write here will be when the 2017 Champion has been determined. Nothing else more to say until then.

Jumped ahead to the score. When Warriors were making lousy plays in the first, I couldn’t sit it out. Will watch the game over the course of the afternoon, and finish tonight. Glad they won. They needed to do that. By the sounds of things, Curry had some nice work in the paint, too.

    EDIT: THIS is frickin’ HILARIOUS!!!!
