The OT: The Last Jedi

April 14, 2017

My reaction to this trailer was interesting. I wasn’t excited about the movie, though they can never go wrong with Jedi training scenes (unless it is to tell you that you need a blood test to get a midichlorian count). What gave me a little thrill was the fact that Star Wars fans are finally getting a regular flow of movies set in their favorite universe. That is one of several benefits to the Disney acquisition, I am sure. Still haven’t seen Rogue One yet. Will do so at some point. And I am reminded that I need to catch up on the most excellent, Star Wars Rebels, which I would not be ashamed to own.

NBA Playoffs start this weekend. Have the free League pass trial. Depending on what kind of effort the Clippers and Warriors put up, I might even buy the pass again this year.

And this is good marketing!

UPDATE: There’s more. A long interview with Tim Schafer, for those interested.

Hey Guys, can we try this out? High praise from Gabe, the one who works for a living.

    Overwatch Uprising

I have to say that the new Overwatch mode Uprising is the most fun I have ever had with the game. Kara called it last night when she said is was basically a Destiny Strike but in Overwatch (and with 4 players yay!) . She is absolutely right and the reality is that I wish I could throw myself into a playlist of Uprising style encounters in OW just like I can enter the Strike playlist in Destiny. I enjoy PvP but Uprising is actually the game I want out of Overwatch.

These characters they’ve designed are amazing. It’s like each one of them is a beautiful sports car and until now we’ve only been able to play destruction derby with them. Uprising is like a brilliantly designed racetrack that really lets you see what these heroes can do. I have never felt more like Reinhardt than when I’m playing him in Uprising. Same with Tracer and all the others. To me it feels like this is how these characters were meant to be played.

It’s sad knowing that this is more of a novelty right now. It will only be around for a couple weeks and then it’s gone. Maybe they are just testing the waters. Maybe they want to know how fans react to a mode like this before they invest serious resources in it. I hope that’s the case and I hope that Blizzard decides to go all in on the concept. Uprising doesn’t feel like a fun diversion to me. It feels like a natural and integral part of the game that it has always been missing. Overwatch feels more complete now and losing it come May is going to hurt.

      I’m down to try it!

Regarding SW, I liked the trailer. A lot of questions raised, nothing really answered. In the ways that the Force Awakens was essentially a launching pad of a new star wars story, this movie will actually be where the creativity gets put to the test. From a direction standpoint, looks good (coming from a new director / team)

      Also, that art is HOT:

Regarding this cool game, they added Squad mode recently (up to 4 player squads). This is a huge addition!

This would be a great showcase for Scorpio, but Sony has the advertising rights it appears, so who knows. I am curious if that will have any impact on the optimization of the Scorpio platform as well.

All sorts of Battlefront 2 news lately, and I wasn’t interested in any of it,…until I was reminded that Amy Hennig is involved. What is up with this Glixil site getting all these fantastic interviews?!

    • April 17, 2017 9:38 am

Yeah, DICE announced no season pass as well.. Hopefully they opt for the all maps are free model. The first game was fun, but didn’t have enough to sustain in the long run. This will probably look amazing on Scorpio however, so I will prob end up with it lol

Via Mike Ybarra ( on twitter:

I still prefer monitor, and with the recent AMD FreeSync announcement, would rather put my dollars in that direction.

Thanks for your impressions, Zos. I saw that via Digital Foundry twitter and wondered.

And here is the trailer for Battlefront 2. My only problem was that we couldn’t play it unless we had someone from North America escort us onto a server. Otherwise, we were banished to Asia, where no one was playing. Literally, I Cornie and I wanted to play but we couldn’t join a server with players. We own the game! If they announce a server browser, I will consider 2 because I had a blast in that universe, and at this point, there is nothing else in the pipe for Fall 2017.

Like PvZ:GW, how can you take a sunflower seriously. Tea bagging Luke will never get old.

Similar to Phil Spencer’s comments on where the new big gems in gaming are coming from:

With the new addition of a squad mode, this is on the top of my anticipation list for Xbox

    • April 18, 2017 6:12 pm

I want you to know that in squad mode I have your back. I promise to shriek when I get killed so that you know someone is on your six.

Squads for sure will be fun. Any ETA for this on console yet?

    • April 20, 2017 12:10 pm

Nothing confirmed, just “soon”. Hopefully early access date announced at E3.

Very interested to see when this becomes available for console.

OT: Outlast 2 releases on Tuesday. I’m ready to be scared shitless all over again. If anyone hasn’t tried the first, (I know some of you guys watched Grymm stream it back in the day) I HIGHLY recommend playing it before playing the second one. Fantastic horror game. Will jump scare the fuck out of you A LOT.

Outlast was a blast to experience via Grymmie’s stream. Won’t ever forget the laughs & overall great time watching him scream & lose his shit. Who knew that he would be gone a few months afterwards? 😢

Outlast doesn’t have anything on Alien: Isolation though. It doesn’t matter if gamers aren’t diehard Alien franchise fans, that game was scary as a muthafuckah. The xenomorph’s AI was revolutionary & still is. If you haven’t played A:I, RoBBins, I can’t recommend it any higher than I already have.

Battlegrounds looks pretty darn good. It had me at ‘hello.’ Can’t wait for Early Access.

Ha! You surprise me Blank. I never would have thought you would be interested in Battlegrounds. 🙂

Squads in BG changes everything. It becomes all about strategy + communication (and some twitch skills to an extent). There is a lot going on, and the drop in experience removes all of the barrier of entry of games like DayZ for people who can’t bear the permadeath.

It’s definitely got some buggy/jankiness to it, but early access, thus lower cost and gradual + frequent updates.

    • April 21, 2017 2:35 am

      LOL@Bugs. He’s the best!

Understood. Well, I have been on board since I watched LevelCap’s vid a month or so ago. I am just very concerned about my efficacy in the game. In Battle Royale, I am just there to make others feel like badasses. In squad mode, perhaps my death moans can serve to alert my mates of encroaching danger, or my flesh serve to absorb bullets otherwise meant for them.

When it comes to “Preview”/”Early Access” I am on board almost just out of principle.

The main aspect that is a bit different in BG than traditional survival/arena/war games is teamwork. Let me explain what I mean a bit more in depth. Unlike other traditional “team-based” shooters where everyone pretty much starts off with a firearm of some type & the battlefield is simply littered with a ton of players which ultimately reduces to chaos. If you’re blessed with quick twitch skills, you’re going to be a wrecking machine killing players that are fodder like you & I, Suns. 😕 However, BG takes a different take on this formula because the players have to scavenge weapons. Some may have melee weapons while others will find firearms. With a mixture of players wielding different kinds of weapons, teamwork is necessary for your team’s ultimate survival because everyone isn’t brandishing the same kind of weapon. That aspect is what makes BG so intriguing to me.
The Battle Royale/Hunger Games approach hasn’t been implemented into video games until now. In addition, the constantly shrinking battlefield forces players to engage instead of hiding like a damn coward to preserve a bullshit kill streak to launch a ridiculous nuke on your opposition. That kind of shit empowers selfish play. BG, on the other hand, allows teams to develop strategies of stealth & going loud to engage the enemy. For example, the melee members of the team are obviously weaker because they lack long range means of killing, so they’re going to have to play as distraction or bodyguards (cover six) to those that have firearms. While they can charge the enemy like calvary units or frontline grunts using bayonets, those that have guns can start picking the pre-occupied enemy off because they’re focused on repelling the players rushing them. The visceral in-your-face combat freaks players out. While the enemy is focused on the melee squad charging them, they’re easy pickings for the shooter squad. Since ammo is scarce because everything has to be obtained by scavenging and/or taking it from enemies, deciding when & how to dispense death by lead encourages better planning & teamwork. You know that I love it when a plan comes together. I can go on & on about the different kinds of scenarios, but the kind of gameplay that’s been introduced in BG seems very fresh. That’s worth the price of admission. Also, like you said, the principle that it’s an Early Access title deserves to be supported. MS is on the right track with Early Access to games & that’s due to the Win 10-Xbox initiative. “Shut up & take my money already!” 😂

@blankman6 I have A:I on PC but I haven’t touched it in a LONG time. Just got caught up with other games at the time, but I want to dive back into it sometime soon. Personally, A:I has much more of an atmospheric horror element to it (i.e. Dead Space and the creepy ship), but Outlasts jump scares actually scared me more than A:I has from what I’ve played so far.

I will agree that the Alien’s randomized AI was/still is incredible. Not knowing where it is going to pop out of and appear is absolutely terrifying. Now I want to play more of it!

Microsoft confirmed that Party Chat is coming to mobile apps (apple/android etc). This is another one of my biggest requests going back to XBO launch. Should also allow Bluetooth party chat finally!

Also, not relevant to most be the switch version of Mario Kart is apparently great

Probably going to buy this if they go back to gameplay roots too.

I said the same exact thing. Pretty sure it’s confirmed to be boots on the ground, so no more of the jetpack jumping shit. That’s a good start. Reveal is on Wednesday.
