Posting early in anticipation of a busy weekend.

An additional 2000 invites went out for Sea of Thieves this weekend – two sessions on Saturday: 11am-2pm PST, and 7-10pm PST. I am going to try for the early one because I won’t even be home until the second session is almost finished. 😦 More details on the Alpha as they become available. Let us know if you got in.

Me and Blank are still on the outside.

I’ll get the game but genuine excitement is gone for me. I think it hit a fever pitch when gameplay was new and actually in players’ hands for the first time a couple of months ago. There was a lot to talk about and that has since come and gone.

It’s like when a new movie comes out – all of your friends go see it but tickets are sold out for you and you never end up seeing it – all of the impressions/conversations/ and “wow-ness” have already happened and passed. By the time you see it months later there’s less excitement going in.

In this case they’ve essentially divided their community between the haves and have not’s (similar to how DLC can divide a player base) and those of us who have NOT played it still have no sense of its experience, meanwhile those who HAVE over these past few months are talking about things I don’t even know about. Like when people are talking about season 4 of a tv show when you are still on season 1 – just that feeling of being behind – has kind of killed the buzz for me.

It’s not a game that depends on that buzz for me at least so I’ll still get it but Blank and I can’t help but feel left out and mildly negative about it, rational or not.

Yeah, I told rED that SoT is “dead to me” even before it’s out. 😜

    • February 16, 2017 7:36 pm

LOL! Well, as long as is it isn’t more dead to you than Payday 2 or DICE games, we are still in business! 😜

It’s funny, because I was sorta feeling the same way the Red feels, but since I only really come to read this site once a week, I’m commenting now.

I’m fine with Rare not inviting me though. I know that I’m not really going to give much feedback or participate in their forums, so give the Alpha invite to someone that will. And I really only play games in my set window of time, anyway.

Suns, I will keep visiting the wordpress page at least weekly. Considering that we party up roughly twice per year, at least I won’t ruin your conversational references.

    • February 20, 2017 5:41 pm

Hi Herandar, as I mentioned below, I understand the disappointment that leads to frustration/indifference/or worse. I won’t bother posting about the game anymore, except occasionally on the dedicated page which people will be able to avoid because they will know the topic before they click.

Thanks for reading and commenting, always. I know you do and so I feel free to include you in references, and even ask, on occasion for info (e.g., BF1 alpha stuff etc.). For those who I know have left, I don’t mention them by name, not because I am bitter, but because it would be kind of like talking behind their backs.

Yeah, as regards partying up, I have almost completely given up weekend gaming in the mornings/afternoons (which are everyone else’s prime time). Honestly, I’ve done it for ten years and have no regrets, but especially since my work weeks are full of long work days, it is a considerable inconvenience and personal sacrifice to give up the weekend daylight hours like that for gaming. The day is spent laughing and having fun, but I get nothing done around the house or for my person. When the evening rolls around, everyone goes to bed, and I have an evening left but it is too late to shop, work, or do anything outside. And that doesn’t even address that fact that gaming is exhausting and I don’t have any more creative energy left.

Undoubtedly, when a game comes out that captures our collective attention, I will be all over it and will be gladly giving up daylight hours for the camaraderie, but until then, I won’t usually be logging on until 3pm JST at the earliest.

It is always fun to catch up, though! πŸ™‚

Just FYI Rocket League (GOAT) is free to play this weekend!

    • February 16, 2017 3:55 pm

Christmas newbs! Actually, RL is the only game where having people who can’t play well makes it less enjoyable. Like trying to play ping pong or tennis with someone who cannot return a single serve, or lob. Soccer for pre-schoolers.

As for rED, I hear you and know your pain. Welcome to my world. Since Gears 2 shut me out from their DLC (which people went on and on about as being the best Gears MP maps ever) until this past month when Ubisoft won’t let me play their shittastic Division in the Wilderness, and Astroneer refuses to fix their effing controls. 3 lines of code. All it takes.

Being ignored or excluded is a form of bullying. Psychologically, whatever the reason/motivation, the effect is the same. So, I not only empathize, I can honestly say I have been there.

I posted about it here because I was hopeful that more got in, and maybe in their excitement, might make a special trip here to let me know. I was not trying to rub it in. Honestly, and I am not bitter – I write mostly for myself, aware that nobody owes it to me to read – I didn’t even know that you read the site anymore, or who reads the site anymore. Most of the time, even when I talk in party about stuff that has been up for over a week, everyone is like “Whaaat?, Huh? Oh, I’ll check it out later…”

It is really unfortunate that Rare won’t/can’t let in more gamers. As for why they don’t use the Invite friends method, they are specifically trying to get gamers to play with strangers because they want to figure out how to make it fun for people who don’t have friends. That is their one ambition that is unrealistic, I think.

Ok, gotta go now, finish putting on my pre-clown make-up, before I go to work. LOL!

Suns, I will try to jump on for the early session if possible. I’m still dying to try this out since our last attempt failed miserably due to the servers. Here’s to hoping!

Saw this earlier today and thought about donating to it. Looks like a hilarious night time game for us all to play. All backers get access to the pre-alpha as well.

How cool would this be. Clippers haven’t had fire in the tank since he left.

Well, now that Sacramento has waived Barnes, he could be grabbed by Doc & the Clippers. He was a solid teammate when he played in L.A. Barnes was an enforcer and did a lot of the Clippers’ dirty work. LOL However, he does bring with him many headaches. Barnes is unstable. He & Cousins were involved in a brawl in an NYC nightclub when they last played the Knicks. Cousins has been exonerated, but Barnes must appear in court. And let’s not mention when he showed up at the front doorstep of his ex-wife to kick Derek Fisher’s ass. Even though Fisher deserved it (you don’t screw a former teammate’s wife, ex- or not); you can’t do that. I’m not sure Doc/Ballmer want to inherit that kind of instability.

It pains me to admit this, but my Clippers aren’t going anywhere fast. The Warriors are pretty much a shoe-in for the finals this year. I even hated the rumored Carmelo Anthony trade because I don’t have any affinity for Melo’s selfish play. He doesn’t play defense and he’s a ball hog. I could give a rat’s ass that he’s a BFF with CP3, that Melo might be reinvigorated to play with his personal pal, Paul. Dude, you’re a damn multi-millionaire FFS! Earn your pay! If Melo did indeed want to truly play with CP3, he would have waived his no-trade clause and made it happen. I’m glad this proposed trade never came to fruition, I seriously doubt that it would have made much of a difference. Paul Pierce is done and Jamal Crawford has virtually disappeared. Argh!

    • February 20, 2017 11:28 pm

Yes, Clippers dodged a bullet with the Melo non-trade. One of the most over-rated players in the league (in my uneducated opinion), Derrick Rose being the title winner there. I don’t care what personal accolades he might have earned, Melo isn’t about “team”. I suspect that as long as Melo is on another team, Lebron loves him, but there is no way he was interested in Melo playing for the Cavs (*unless it was for very cheap).

As for Barnes, didn’t know about the pending court appearance in NY. That complicates things. As far as his “unstable” character goes, nothing the Clippers aren’t used to in every sense of the word, consistency, reliability, health, and law. Griffin himself was lucky to not be charged with assault when he broke his hand on the equipment manager last year. Barnes would fit right back in though I am not saying it will happen. I really think he was much, much more important to the Clippers than the value from his trade showed (and one heck of a better idea than Melo LOL).

And since we are here talking basketball, how about that (snot) Boogie? I am very curious to see if he can make things happen in New Orleans. I am highly inclined to think that over time (if not right away) only grief will come of his presence. Then again, maybe all he needed to do was get away from the Kings.

Cousins is a ticking time bomb. There’s a reason why he leads the league in technical fouls each year. He also doesn’t play nice with others, or gets along with his coaches. Heck, he ran his last coach, George Karl, out of town. Watch him start griping when he doesn’t get his amount of touches. He ranks the highest in every category because he not only holds the ball the longest of every center out there, but he gets blocked the most because of his shot volume. Something’s got to give because Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins can’t monopolize all of the team’s shots.

As far as Blake breaking his hand on the equipment manager’s face; that was a fight between friends. Could it have led to an assault & battery charge? Possibly, but only bitches would turn to the law to settle grievances. Regardless, that’s water under the bridge now.

One thing is for sure, the Sacramento Kings got the butt end of the deal by their own hand simply because they didn’t want to pay Cousins that ridiculous contract extension next season. That is hilarious when a team orchestrates its own demise because their owner got stingy. LOL

Agreed about Melo. If Lebron really wanted to play with his buddy, he would have pushed for the Kevin Love for Melo trade. They might be boys, but even Lebron knows what’s up. For those that think that the owner, Dan Gilbert, is calling the shots; they better wake up because Lebron is & has been calling everything- plain & simple. He wanted Kyle Korver; he got Korver. It’s simply an arms race to compete against the Warriors now.

First Take Interviewed Magic the other day, and he wants (and actually thinks it is possible) Davis and Westbrook on the Lakers, and all at the table were talking like it wasn’t a batshit crazy idea. I was wide-eyed.

If Booger brings his “charm” to the Pelicans, Davis may flee even without some beautiful offer in L.A.. And I would love to see OKC fans wearing Russel Cupcake t-shirts if he leaves OKC.

Hey, apparently, Kings owner was really hot for Buddy Hield. When I was just searching through my history for the Magic interview, I came across this:

BWAHAHAHAHAHA Now we know why the owner loves Buddy! “Do it again, Buddy!”

As for an arms race between Cavs and Warriors, even if the Cavs are a few missiles short, they would still be formidable opponents for the “We got choke, how ’bout you!” Warriors.

  6. February 21, 2017 3:47 pm

Kenny, you mentioned the Kings owner being to cheap to keep Boogie, and I came across this Tweet today.

I am curious, from my eyes, it seems like the Kings got a great deal (even if other better deals were available). They got rid of a thorn in their side. Yes, he is a “franchise” player, but they got a guaranteed top three overall draft pick, and a second round draft pick as well, and both of those new players will be a fraction of the price. Furthermore, Boogie, when drafted was only #5 overall, so there chances of getting a new “franchise” player that will be even better than what they had in Boogie. (Is the 2017 draft going to be full of lames?) The Kings get a chance to start fresh and feel relief from the monster contract that was giving them nothing but headaches without even being close to a winning record.

Suns, talented big men are extremely rare. That pretty much explains it in a few words. This next upcoming draft isn’t remotely as strong as the last two have been. Every analyst, and I mean every single one has commented on how the Kings got robbed by the Pelicans. If that isn’t enough proof that the deal was utter garbage for the Kings, I don’t know what is. Even Vlade Divac, Kings GM (& former Laker center), has gone on record that he received better offers than what they wound up with. That admission proves that it was the owner’s decision.

Boogie is a head case, but he is probably the best center in this league. With Cousins gone, the Kings will now be completely irrelevant. By the way, second round draft pics are essentially throwaways; relegated to warming the bench or D-leaguers.

    • February 21, 2017 6:55 pm

Yeah, I saw that everyone was saying the same thing, but I was missing the point of his “big man” rarity. Thanks for clearing that up and the insight on second round picks. πŸ™‚
