The Weekly OT #39: The Comeback

February 11, 2017
by

I don’t usually give titles to the Weekly OT until the content of the discussion has evidenced a central theme, and even then, it is just to facilitate quick reference in the future. In this case, however, the timing and the need to give credit where it is due, is overwhelming.

In the 2016 season of sports we saw the Chicago Cubs comeback from a 3-1 game deficit in their Championship and World Series games. Previous to that, in basketball, both the Warriors and the Cavaliers came back from 3-1 deficits to take their Conference and Finals’ series respectively. Last weekend, continuing the trend (and this is only mentioning the sports of which I am familiar), the cheating-est team, The New England Patriots, made a comeback of such epic proportions (down 3-28 late in the 3rd) it actually served to ease the pain of the Seahawks loss a couple of years back.

So, it is common knowledge that when we are down in a match, shouting out “Remember Herandar!” “For Herandar!” or when there is no time, just “Herandar!” rallies the troops. It is the against-all-odds victory cry. It took a nudge from rED, however, to remember that there is a reason we cry that name out.

This is the comment and here is the video that started it all, that changed the world.

You called it Herandar. You did it! You put it on film, called it, and since then, dominoes.

Rallying cry, “Herandar!” is thy name.

This post brings tears to my eyes. Thank you.

Now to scrub the memory of any minor affiliation with Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.

LOL! We aim to please, and you earned it!

(P.S. It was a hoot writing it up.) πŸ˜€

By the way, Herandar, when you speak truth, do something for the good of all mankind, you don’t get to choose who benefits from it and who doesn’t. You will just have to live with the fact that you, YOU gave the Patriots their win. That one is on you. πŸ˜‰

    ROTFLMFAO!

Hey, after what the OKC fans put on KD, if the Clippers don’t take it, I want the Warriors to just take care of business and stomp all over the West. KD’s dues paid. Maybe if Russel Westbrook had played a little more like he does these days, back when KD was was earning MVPs, they would have stopped the Heat and taken a title themselves. Russel Westbrook can have his petty fanbase, and his hard, well/earned MVP that he better get this year (for he deserves, more than Steph did last year). I hope Westbrook takes the record for the most triple doubles in a season, but I couldn’t care less if he never gets a Championship ring.

Even if the Warriors win the championship however, it will not mean even a fraction of what it would have meant (to me anyway) had they not made the trade. I wanted to see Curry et al man up.

And the best comedy on TV right now is Shaq, Kenny, and Charles. That show is frickin’ hilarious, every time. Here is the latest episode in full. I haven’t even watched it yet, but I’ve no doubt it will have me laughing out loud.

The first real reason to buy a Scorpio. Psyonix is optimizing for the power of new machines.

Sea of Thieves this weekend (and I am going to probably have to miss the whole session for American gamers). 😦

M$ is so confident about the Scorpio, they are giving Sony extra time to plan a counter attack. This is actually awesome because I won’t be at work!

Also, prediction time. I think they should REALLY call it simply “xbox”. New models will release for incremental upgrades that keep the same name.

      Xbox One (base model)
Xbox One S (last hurrah and interation of “xbox one”).
Xbox (occasional SKU refreshes, previous model drops 100$ or more depending on the time delta between releases).

They would benefit from implying this is a next-gen console, vs a “pro” or “elite” model.

Price point is the biggest question and risk. I think 499$ is the sweet spot. I don’t expect it cheaper than that based on the rumored specs.

I think people will be disappointed with the internal storage. Could even be 1TB (i think 500GB is unlikely). The reason is there is a large supply of CHEAP external drives that are fast over USB 3.0. Internal SSD for OS would be baller, but I think is still unlikely.

Thanks for the heads-up and editorial.

They need to release it for under $500. I couldn’t care less about the size of the HD or even the complete absence of one, but not using a cheap 256+GB SSD is darn near a deal breaker (in this day and age, and with MS’s brutally bloated “kernel”, horrifically slow OS). They are morons if they don’t offer it. Plain and simple. As you say, people can buy their own storage solutions. We can foot that bill over and above the $500. Just give us an SSD so that everything moves with a click, not a spinning wait icon.

Yes, this is their next gen machine, and they shouldn’t provide a name for it beyond just XBOX, at least not one with numbers, ever again.

I don’t know if their confidence is in their product, or in the fact that they are cutting this generation to four years (as I predicted when they released the awful specs for the One), and Sony simply cannot keep pace. They don’t have the coffers anymore.

What may end up happening is that the companies start upgrading their hardware at their own convenience, ignoring what the competition is doing.

Microsoft has promised a generational-less future, but I don’t think they are going to provide equally cutting-edge refreshes every two years. So, it will be as it is this generation. A leap forward, then a refresh, then a leap forward and an refresh. etc.

The other thing that they would be crazy not to do, is provide (and pimp the heck out of) Rocket League, Ark:Surival Evolved, Sea of Thieves custom painted SKUs. They need to show that the games work fine on the One, but absolutely FLY on the new machine.

I am likin’ JaValle’s story line because he and Curry are starting to get that Curry/Bogut vibe, and that was one deadly combo.

Serious basketball, and again, this fellow deserves a unanimous MVP far more than Curry did last year. I hope he gets it.

And Green is gettin’ himself thrown out of games again. LMAO! Gonna see if he can get just enough Technicals to put him out for a game right around the time they are in the Conference or Finals series.

I hope someday the Clippers do something worth sharing. They haven’t beat the Warriors since they called them “Lucky” (after they themselves lost a lead to the then lowly Rockets). I hate that kind of Karma.
