The Weekly OT #2: E3 Sony and Overwatch

June 9, 2016

Because Herandar’s wish is my command.

Shall we try this again? The first one was wildly successful!

I am choosing this image, ’cause this is what we do here, and I am not talkin’ about playin’ the game, but, well, just watch closely. As of next week, this thread will just be a title and an image.

    Sony makes a chess move:

    — Not coming to E3
    — Will be fully backwards and forwards compatible with PS3 (game libraries the same).
    — PS4 Neo will likely come with no required external box CPU for VR.

The neo was all but confirmed for E3 (and a launch at the end of this year). I am thinking Sony got wind of Microsoft’s Scorpio hardware, and decided to delay, and react based on what they announce. This could be problematic for Microsoft if they make the Neo “faster” than the Scorpio. But all of this being said, Microsoft is probably able to take more of a financial hit on the hardware sales than Sony.

The rumor is that Scorpio will launch sometime in 2017. Due to the lack of urgency, I wonder if Microsoft will hold back their announcement as well. In terms of naming the console, I hope Microsoft calls the “new” hardware “Xbox”. And each new iteration of the console will continue to have that name. This is what makes most sense to me if they plan on releasing incremental yearly improvements going forward.

PS: Pokemon GO is ultra badass.

First of all, Sony would be batshit crazy NOT to pull a stunt like that – heck, they are willing to lie about release dates and other stuff, why wouldn’t they be willing to do this.. And in turn, Microsoft is utterly moronic if they think it is a good idea to announce something before Sony has committed. If Sony offers a machine 4x better than the Scorpio but available just one year later, who do you think wins that “war”? It still surprises me that Microsoft continues to schedule their E3 Keynote before Sony.

Speaking of which, I am your Huckleberry, Zos. I will get up in the middle of the night to jump on Live and chatz while we watch (and listen for Kenny). Then, I am also taking flex time to get home early from work that day, so I can be in on the Party Chatz after 8pm that night, when y’alls are geekin’ out.

With this news, however, our visit might be sans Scorpio.

Played with Echo/Vudu last night alongside his daughter and some random on our team as Pharah used his concussion blast to knock the enemies off the map for a triple kill! Hilarious play of the game!

Also, I think I’m almost to Cornie’s level of badass with Genji. Had a nice POTG with a triple sword kill, followed by a Pharah rocket deflect for a 4th kill! He’s so much fun to play and definitely my go-to hero.

Environmental kills are always hilarious! And awesome, RoBBins! We can always use a deadly Genji, Cornie got a 29 kill streak last night, with over ten of the kills on the objective, and many of them, Genji’s nemesis Winston. It was kind of special so he recorded it.

What sensitivity does Cornie play on? I find that the higher the sens for this game, the worse I do. I think right now i’m on 24 sens.

I don’t know, and he changes it for each character.

I’ve been meaning to share this, but I don’t think I’d enjoy Rocket League as much as I do without my Elite controller. I only use one face button (A to jump) and everything else is on the triggers or toggle switches on the back. No bumpers, and each input gets a dedicated finger.

Overwatch Patch for PC is up.

A new patch is now live on Windows PC. Read below to learn more about the latest changes.

Please note that many of these changes will be rolled into a larger patch for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at a later date.

    Alternate Fire
Recovery time (i.e. the amount of time before McCree starts reloading) decreased from 0.75 seconds to 0.3 seconds
Bullet damage decreased from 70 to 45

Developer Comments: McCree was performing too well against all targets, making him feel like a must-pick in many situations. By reducing the damage of his alternate fire, McCree is now significantly weaker against tanks like Roadhog and Reinhardt, but still maintains his lethality against smaller targets like Tracer and Genji.

    Widow’s Kiss
    Alternate Fire (Scoped Shot)
Base damage decreased from 15 to 12
Note: Scoped shot damage multiplier remains unchanged
Headshot damage multiplier increased from 2x to 2.5x
Players must now wait for the unscoping animation to completely finish before scoping

    Ultimate cost increased by 10%

Developer Comments: In the right hands, Widowmaker can often feel unstoppable—even when just landing body shots instead of critical heads shots. The changes to her alternate fire weaken body shot damage while leaving her headshot damage unchanged. Additionally, we felt her Ultimate ability, Infra-Sight, was coming up a little too frequently, especially considering its impact on the game.

People who play well in competitive modes, will unlock special items for their respective characters. This is going to be a big carrot for Cornie. I look forward to seeing him rock some special Katana for Genji and others.

I finally unlocked my “Cute” Junkrat spray. The “Cute” sprays are all unlocked by earning an achievement that usually involves killing most of the enemy team. The longer people play, and the better they get, the more difficult it is becoming to unlock those achievements. I am pretty sure that within the first hour, I killed a whole team with a single tire. Since the game released, I think it has taken me 17 hours of Junkrat alone, to get that one. People are getting the audio cues.

One more thing, Cornie noticed that each character has two soundbytes for their ult. One is the soundbyte that the enemy, and the friendly who is using their ult hears. The other is the soundbyte that the friendly teammates here. For example, when a player pops their ultimate when playing Soldier 76, he and the enemies hear, “I’ve got you in my sites”, but the friendly teammates here, “Tactical visor”

Here is a site with the sounds sorted by character.
