Battlefield 1

May 9, 2016

This trailer already has almost 20,000,000 views!

I’m excited.  I love old timey World War shooters.   Here is not WWII, but…  WWI!!

Jimmy, that’s you with the spiked club at the beginning, isn’t it?!

Yeah, this is definitely in your wheelhouse! I can see you and Herandar getting into this one big time. I will give it a very close look, and if there is a beta, will almost certainly play it every minute I can.

They have already confirmed that it will be 64 players on consoles, and that is a little disappointing, because I think the original 12v12 in BF:BC2 is the magic number for maximum entertainment. The setting, however, could potentially cure a lot of the problems I have with BF4. Here is a list of the things that are different that could have a positive impact on the game:

*Bi/Tri planes that are easy to fly, a blast to dogfight with, and not dominating like Helos
*Trench warfare which should literally keep things closer, less sprawling
    *Mustard gas for area denial
*Possibly more destruction a la BF:BC2
*Less weapons and attachments which will hopefully bring the “RPG” element under control, and make the complexity more manageable
*Extensive networking experience from the launch failures of BF4, starting at 30 tickrate etc. etc.

Of course, they have to provide a server browser, as they have for BF3 and 4.

DICE’s homeboy LevelCap has already played it and is pumping out the videos.

All I need it a club! And this ash tray….

Definitely looking forward to the beta. Biplanes! Need to cut a hole in the top wing for my head to stick through.

This video has only about 6 thousand views. Does anyone know more about this new Netflix series? (Got notice of it in my YouTube Subscription to Netflix.) My biggest question is who, and how, they discovered this special property that yams possess.

My wife watched the first season of that show It’s a new season, not a new show. I caught a few minutes, and the premise is pretty good. Seeing Sam Waterston & Martin Sheen as a couple was inspiring. (Didn’t watch the video you linked.) Also, the new Tom Servo (Baron Vaughn) is on the show.

It really is a show?! I had no idea. I genuinely thought it was a product.

Zos, I almost want to go to the Infinite Warfare YouTube and click Dislike! Bwahahahaha

I am going to stay out of this one (not liking or disliking either), but it is hilarious!

EDIT: DOH! It is Grace and Frankie! Haven’t watched it and don’t plan to, but now I know what this is all about.

And yet, CODIW will still outsell BFI, because all the people still want to play COD4R.

Penny Arcade has a great blog entry on the “Likes”/”Dislikes” battle, which I will quote just a little here. Emphasis added by me.

Having all the dislikes on your video doesn’t necessarily mean people won’t buy it. There is a very popular image in heavy circulation because of its ironic payload. But irony is not an argument; a fan purchasing a game in a moment of weakness is an index of human frailty. I was under the impression that everybody basically knew that people were full of shit. I certainly didn’t need a class. I don’t even need the JPEG. Something is lapping at the foundation of this brand because something must.

I love that bit on “human frailty” because my “resolve” has certainly been tested and proved wanting on more than one occasion – though it is usually the converse, I say I am going to love something and I fizzle out real quick. The whole entry is pretty fun.

They also talk about Overwatch and Battleborn.

The Overwatch v Battleborn thing is fundamentally illusory, though. Battleborn shouldn’t be compared to Overwatch, because Battleborn is a MOBA and Overwatch is Street Fighter with guns.

I didn’t give Battleborn a fair shake, so I cannot verify their complaints. I can, however, verify my pleasure with Overwatch. Just check my Activity Feed. I even had a nice little exchange with Joeyscorpse Vudu. It sounds like he is pleased, too, which is pleasing in return. In fact, one could say I am having multiple pleasurings.

Screw it. Penny Arcade has been on a role and I am just going to have to embed a few of the more recent ones that touch on all sorts of phenomena in our hobby.

There are a ton on VR, but you will just have to browse them for yourself. One last one on Randomoniums:
