This is just 18 fascinating minutes of netcode description for Overwatch – two points of comparison between Blizzard’s approach and Epic’s approach: transparent communication with the community and the opposite of the “X-factor”.

“You don’t need to lead targets based on your lag, you just lead targets based on the velocity of the projectile. That makes all these projectile weapons feel tight and responsive.”

The server tickrate (the rate at which the server updates the clients per second) is 62.5 and the client tic rate is 20.8. For comparison, when everyone here was dying around corners while playing BF4 at launch, the server tickrate was under 14 I believe. To DICE’s credit, they changed that and even made the info available to the gamer. You can check the tickrate every time you jump into a game. I believe now it is mostly in the 30s. Really, it can’t be much better than that because they have environmental damage and so much more data than simple arena shooters.

Anyway, it is a great watch if you ever were interested in knowing why enemies can just shrug off a shotgun blast to the face.

Beta on preorders for PC is May 5. Waiting on how it goes on Jr’s rig before pulling the trigger on another one, in case we need more firepower. Already tested Ark Survival of the Fittest at 50fps on high, which might do better on the real game.

Not sure if you have seen the steam custom maps for Ark but they look like fun on youtube.

Anyways shooting for a 4th of july sale on PCs.

We ran BF4 on Maximum and 60 and it’s just something else. 8 core FTW.

Also remember that fanfare last year for Xbox at E3 how the Fallout mods were xbox exclusive? It’s only a month of exclusivity and they should have the tools by summer, some examples:

I haven’t played F4 but interested to see if we finally have reliable mods on consoles.

BF4 has 45 tickrate servers on PC & consoles. I’ve played on 45 tickrate servers, and I think the information is actually a little bit too much for console (Xbox One, at least) processing power.

There are 60 tickrate PC BF4 servers, and I know DICE even set up some 120 tickrate servers, but I’m not sure if they still offer them. BF4 has to update a lot more information as you mentioned.

    1) This looks awesome.
    2) The Vive is far and beyond the best VR available. It just launched today and these games are incredible. The biggest issue is the room-scale (hey kinect) requirement and the higher cost of entry. There were some games that would adapt to your current available space, and generate smaller/larger environments based on this (ship platform, rooms etc). All this being said, the VR quality is much higher than the competition.

I was watching a demo of an online shooter, where you actually have to duck to get behind cover. All the enemy character animations are 1:1, meaning it looks eerily real because people are ducking and moving much like they would in real life (the vive gear is capturing your body). Jeff at Giant Bomb waved his arm/hand like “hello” to an enemy then blasted him in the face. Also, “job simulator” is incredible. The environments are full of models that you can grab and interact with.

Best tech doesn’t necessarily win platform wars. Hopefully more developers want to make unique and exclusive content for the Vive that utilize all of its available technology.

Also Red, the Vive drum set looks super cool. You should check it out!

Thanks for the link to the article, Suns. Very interesting stuff about netcoding. As far as DICE goes, that dev is dead to me. I’m not even remotely interested in anything that they’re working on simply because they’ve burned away any goodwill that they had. Shame on me if I fall for their bullshit again.

Speaking of netcode, Gears 4 beta incoming, and official release is Oct 11!

Oh, I had forgotten that DICE killed Blank’s puppy.

It wasn’t just Dice. It was Gearbox, Overkill and Bungie. Their mistake is that they left him alive. Now he will burn them by not buying one game at a time!

I’m sure they will regret it. A lot.

Damn right! LOL, I’m surprised that you remember my blacklist! If more consumers would vote with their wallets instead of falling for those devs/publishers’ crap, it would make a huge statement.

Says the man who bought a Gears 3, that is THREE, COG suit for his avatar. LOL 😀 (the winkie doesn’t work good)

And, for the record, all on that list are not equal in their transgressions. While DICE launched broken BF4, they fixed and continue to support the game even to this day, including new, free maps. That the game is no fun to play is a different problem. Battlefront lacks content, but they make no secret of it.

Gearbox, Overkill, and Valve are run by compulsive bullshitters (I can’t use the term liar because of the legal ramifications), who knowingly, willfully deceive their customers.

I don’t know what Bungie’s sins are, but I haven’t liked them since Halo 2 anyway, so feel free to trample of their grave.

P.S. Zos, my panties are in a knot for Gears 4 Beta. I put in 17+ hours playing TDM on the UE Beta in a single week. I can’t imagine I will spend less time playing Gears 4 (though it might be awful and I quit right away).

Bungie’s sin according to Blank was releasing exclusive content on the PS4, and therefore turning their back on xbox fans who made them who they are. (Even though the content IMO isn’t that important but hey i guess it’s the principle)

    ot:

Ark DLC features new Dinos and a new server type.

The Rhyno is cool but I am more interested in the new server type Extinction.

It resets the server after a month. That way it evens the field if you are just looking for servers at the moment.

Not going to jump completely yet, still have some completing to do in pve, but is cool to know that in a month I can jump in a fresh server and see what can be done in 30 days.
