The Division – Enemy Factions trailer

February 9, 2016

  1. February 9, 2016 7:51 pm

The Open Beta will start on Thurs., Feb. 18th (24-hour exclusive XB1 access) and end on Sun., Feb. 21st. If you did not delete your closed beta file, you will be able to use them on the open beta. There will be a small update to make the files compatible. Also, there will be a new mission that was previously unavailable on the alpha & closed beta. It will be one of the additional wings in your Base of Operations: Security or Tech. Since IGN First already featured the Security Wing’s Lincoln Tunnel Mission, that has the highest probability as the additional mission in the open beta. In addition, Ubisoft is handing out yet another goodie/unlockable for all participants of the open beta.

Thanks for the 411. Now I am hopin’ I didn’t delete the Beta the other day. I can’t remember.

    • February 10, 2016 12:01 am

I had Cornie check. It is still there! Amazing considering what I deleted. I opened that HD back up to 30% free the other day!

Pssst, time to invest in an external HDD, especially since you guys are going full digital this generation.

I agree with Blank on this, Suns. External HDD’s are a nice backup in case you desperately need some space for more games. Here’s the one I have. It was $68 when I originally bought it (thanks to Major Nelson linking the sale on Twitter). Now its around $85 I believe. Still not too shabby for 2 TB.

    • February 10, 2016 1:15 am

LOL I am sure it will happen one day, and there was a time when I had a bunch of pretty big drives and they crapped out on me losing GBs of files. I kind of got HD shy. Thanks for the link on that drive, RoBBins.

    • February 10, 2016 1:20 am

Nah. No need. If you have a fast internet and you only play a handful of games, Hard Drives are not necessary. Take it from someone who has used 50% of a 4TB and 500mb xbox one hard drive.

All those games are just wasted space if you are not using them. I could get by with Ark (25gb), Far Cry Primal (11gb for now), AC Syndicate (40gb), and some Destiny just because (35.5). That lineup doesn’t even get to 250gb.

The rest of the space could be for the flavor of the month, which I can download and delete everything including Halo 5 or GTA V (both over 60gb) in just a couple of hours.

I seriously doubt anyone actively uses anything more than 500mb.

    • February 10, 2016 1:29 am

Well, that is how I have managed so far.

Hey, did you get Primal? How is it? When that thing hits a certain price point, I will be scooping it up! It looks great!

(And I will let Cornie know about that Ark breeding info in the other thread. Thanks, Frenik!)

    • February 10, 2016 11:36 am

not yet. I pre-downloaded Primal, it should be out in two weeks. I am giving The Division the Blankman’s “You are dead to me” treatment (like he is doing with Ark,lol) so I have plenty of $$$ by dodging the $100 edition, plus Primal and DLC doesn’t bother me (just $65).

Ark is giving free updates and primal will have story. Everything is good.

So since I uninstalled the beta and just re-installed it, will that work for the open beta? Or do I have to just download the new open beta once it drops?

Yep, it’ll work. They’re going to release a very small update to bring the closed beta up to speed with the open beta.

It seems that The Division Blog twitter is getting all the info possible for this open beta. I wont list everything, but the one thing I’m really excited about is the fact that the new skill that is unlocked for the open beta is the deployable turret!

    • February 10, 2016 1:27 am

RoBBins, with your cyborg-like aiming skills you don’t even need a turret. Me, on the other hand, BRING IT ON!!! (thanks for the link, lots of good info there.)

Haha you’re too kind, Suns. Cyborg-like isn’t what I’d compare it to nowadays. Once The Division and the Gears 4 beta eventually drop, I hope to get that aim back. For now, my aim remains to be somewhat lackluster. At least in my opinion… 😥

Do I get a bonus for still having the Alpha on my Hard Drive? I played it more than the Beta, and have better gear on my Alpha character.

Speaking of beta’s, instead of letting this Homefront code go to waste, I’ll just post it here for anyone to take. At least someone will get use out of it. I already used mine. Starts tomorrow!

I played Homefront: The Revolution Beta last week. It is still pretty wonky (watch one of the other players running for a laugh) but there a few rather neat mechanics in the game. The story is that you are guerillas in Philadelphia against the ruling North Korean regime. The Norks have a massive military presence, while everything you have is scavenged or hacked together. You can modify your gun on the fly, and craft bombs from supplies you pick up.

Also, Philly looks like Philly. I saw Independence Hall, and the skate park under I95. I’m not sure how accurate the map is to real life, but it definitely feels right. Not a draw for everyone, but it is for me.

I’m excited to try it out!

Man, the Homefront beta is bad! Talk about a train wreck! It’s uninspired, clunky, and the graphics look last-gen. When a beta succeeds in convincing potential buyers to cancel their pre-orders and/or remove the game off of their radar, that’s a marketing blunder. Didn’t they run focus groups with this game? I can see why this game was mired in development Hell at Crytek.

When I saw the CryEngine splash screen, I thought that it would have decent graphics like Ryse or Evolve, but those expectations were dashed. The Homefront beta is getting skewered on the Xbox One subreddit. It’s currently sitting at 775+ comments and it’s not looking good. Scratch this one off your HDD, guys. It’s not worth the storage space or your time. Move along, folks, nothing to see here.

Darn it, RoBBins! I know some of us can’t access certain game sites due to filters on servers at work like my school district, so I placed it here for all to peruse at their leisure. Oh well, at least it’s bulleted. Haha!

    So OT:

Quantum Break on Xbox One will come with a license for the PC (win10) digital version.

It also comes with Alan Wake and all DLC for that game.

When asked about other games, Phil Spencer indicated this is their plan going forward for Xbox games that are also on Windows 10 (the key is Win10, not PC in general). This is a huge benefit for PC gamers who also have an Xbox. And to promote harmony between Win/Xbox.

Microsoft has their Xbox/Win10 event in a week or so… should be interesting to see if they expand on this. If you recall, this was another “why haven’t they done this” features we wanted at XB1 launch. It is surprising how many of these features have actually delivered (even the unexpected backwards compat program).

I think one of their biggest areas where they are lacking is PC/Console cross platform play. Admittedly, it isn’t very good for a lot of games, but it is just another reason a consumer would want to buy a PS4. This new Win10 strategy could explain why Microsoft hasn’t joined on the PC/Console party already. It may be that Xbox will require Win10 for cross play.

Quantum break on PC even uses the same Xbox Live services as the Xbox One version.

    • February 11, 2016 5:17 pm

Thanks for the heads-up, Adam. I don’t mean to be pessimistic, but it does sound an awful lot like Games for Windows.

When are we going to start reaping the benefits of Direct X 12 on the One?

And here is the latest trailer for QL

    • February 11, 2016 5:29 pm

In terms of licensing or in terms of cross play? I don’t think GFW ever offered PC licenses with xbox one game purchases. Cross play is definitely something they mentioned in the past, but I think the problem was that GFW was a absolute shit show on PC.

The fact that they are essentially blending Xbox on Windows10 as the same services/features as Xbox on console, i think that this is much easier for developers to adapt too. From what I recall, most developers didn’t have the resources to properly develop a GFW cross plat game. And any other method was blocked due to Microsoft policy.

Also, apparently cross-buy is also for 3rd party games:

In terms of DX12, who knows. Crackdown 3 would be the big one I can think of. Also, apparently Quantum Break is DX12 only on PC, so Xbox likely utilizes the same (it is definitely pretty).

Even if cross platform play never makes it to XB1 (Fable is at least confirmed), this cross-buy feature is pretty great. Especially if you are wanting to appeal to the PC gaming market who hasn’t bought a console yet. I would rather have that from a value standpoint alone than cross play (which arguable doesn’t work well in most games (shooters especially).

The question is whether or not you can sell your PC license. I don’t see this being an option, but who knows.

    • February 11, 2016 5:41 pm

In terms of their event. I am predicting that they will announce GOW Ultimate Edition and Killer Instinct are both free for anyone who purchased the game digitally on XB1 (one can hope).

They will prob be going over Win10 mobile, and hopefully the unified development platform.
