It is going to be very hard not to pull the trigger on this before release day.
And this is a great article that almost makes me want to go see the flick!
And more OT, from one of my favorite film analysts.
So OT:, but Red you interested?
Thanks for the heads-up, Zos. This is the kind of development model I was talking about last year.
Yeah, it is common on PC, but hasn’t gained momentum on console yet.
First impressions: Since my download didn’t finish till 10:30, I didn’t play with you all, or long at all, but enough to get a feel.
1) Looking forward to playing with The Stranded (tonight).
2) Graphics aren’t as pretty as what we saw at first. That said though, they are pretty sweet. Definitely better than my current love Fallout 4. The atmosphere is rich with real urban feel and clutter.
3) Everything feels pretty overwhelming. Lots of quests, gears, traders, abilities. Lot of depth here, and will be nice when those things become familiar.
Best (and only) moment (so far)
My first “mission” was clearing some area and establishing “the base”.
I was fighting AI, and some real live player was also either doing my mission or just happened to be there. Every now and then he would shoot me. I’d run away and find a better location, and then focused on finishing my quest. But then he’d be there again, causing trouble. This happened like 4 times. Finally, I was in a good position to finish off the bad guys, and there this dude was. Shooting at my AI team mates. Was he an AI and I was just confused? I don’t think so cause he was yellow instead of red.
Anyway… Whatever he was, I decided I had enough and ended his misery. Flanking maneuver. Down he went. Finished off the final couple AI and unlocked the new base.
Looking forward to a real gaming session with you all.
So Kenai, Seth and I tried to play last night and connection issues rendered it a no-go. After crashing out five times in a row, I decided to play Battlefront while they logged off. When my gaming BFF (LabRat) logged on later I decided to give it another try and it worked perfectly.
I have to say that I am loving this game, and I will definitely be picking it up.
Well, it was bad timing. We decided to group up right as the servers went down. From the developer’s post on the Alpha forums:
“Yesterday’s server tests taught us a lot on server population and capacity. We’ve experienced our first major outage in the night at about 4:30 AM CET, everything went back to normal 30 minutes later. This outage was due to a voluntary limitation of our server infrastructure to further stress their load. In a way, this test was successful as we now know more about how far we can push them.
Today, we’re going the extra mile with more server testing.
First, right after today’s maintenance, we will continue stressing our servers by routing all European players to a single datacenter in Hong Kong, for approximately one hour. Don’t expect the smoothest experience, but if you’re from Europe, please do log-in as we will need as many players as we can to see what happens!
Second, during the day, we will keep experimenting with our architecture and server routing. This should be invisible for you, but be warned that some of you may have a deteriorated experience.”
