We want you to know that we take your feedback seriously and we are looking forward to you trying out these new changes in August when the retail game launches. As always, we want to hear your feedback — join us on our Forums, Twitter, Facebook, Twitch, or YouTube. …

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition launches August 25 (August 28 in some markets) and you can look forward to all 19 maps (plus special community map “Boxes”), all the original game modes in Gears of War, plus Team Deathmatch and King of the Hill, split-screen support, party support, LAN support, private matches on dedicated servers, two spectator slots in private and LAN matches (does not take up player slots), and 17 additional playable multiplayer characters unlocked with level progression in Versus.

I did not know about the spectator slots in private matches!  (Now, if we only had the people to fill the already available 8 slots. LOL)

Im extremely impressed with how much Coalition is listening to their fan base. Its giving me a lot of hope for Gears 4. Also, the switch/fix with active sniper downs was thought of and brought up on the forums by a popular youtuber. The fact that they implemented exactly what he thought they should do is amazing to me. It also makes a lot of sense for the normal/non-competitive crowd because active sniper downs are annoying as fuck as we all know.

I also really like the “Improved look of blood and gore in gameplay” ! Always gotta have those gibs looking sexy, baby! 😉 I just really hope they dont fix much else besides whats listed above, because otherwise its going to be a flawless game IMO.

Indeed we will, Kenai! I pre-ordered my copy off of the M$ store for the pre-order bonuses, so hopefully overnight shipping gets my copy to me on release day and not the day after! Looking forward to dominating some games with you guys soon!

Digital for me. I love it. I haven’t had to get up off the couch since I bought my One. 😉

Thanks, Herandar. I was wondering about him when Greece hit the news again recently.

The second video on that link is totally worth watching.

Waiting to see what the end product is. Got the credit for it, if it delivers after release i’ll get it. If it doesn’t, i’ll just wait for a patch and/or a sale.

Can’t be too careful with games now. Or I might put it towards Halo, since it’s a new game and comes out about a month after Gears.

I will still own it eventually. Just a matter of when and how much.

Achievements have been released for Gears UE, and there are a few new ones coming with the remaster. It also confirms that re-upping/prestiging is returning from Gears 3/Judgment for UE as well. I cant wait to play through the campaign again!

P.S. — Have we found out any info about this “Boxes” game mode/type?? I havent read anything confirming info on it. I’ve heard rumors of it being a gnasher only playlist.

    • July 7, 2015 4:39 pm

RoBBins, go here and check out the map “Boxes”.

      https://gearsofwar.com/en-us/games/gears-of-war-ultimate/xbox-one

It is much smaller than Raven Down, I think. It was a PC only map. As far as I know, all they are doing is adding the gnasher only playlist and this would be the best map for it because it forces you to engage immediately.

Personally, I think it is like chocolate sauce. All by itself, not so interesting. 😉

And @Frenik, understood. Halo 5 may not ship perfect either, but both games will eventually be tuned up to play beautifully – and always on servers! I really, really enjoyed the new Halo map Empire and the new gameplay elements. I am just so crappy at that game though, especially when the new wide-open maps are used and I am getting killed from across the map. I am in a quandary. I’m vexed.

Oooh its a map! Well, seeing as how i’m not the biggest fan of Raven Down, I most likely wont like this map at all lol. We’ll see I guess.

    More info on the updates.

    UPDATE (JULY 8, 2015):

Hey folks, just wanted to provide some additional details and more information about the fixes!

King of the Hill: We added the ability for The Coalition to tweak more playlist settings (on the back end), such as ability to set ring order, ability to set if player must remain in ring to capture points, ability to set how fast a ring can be captured, ability to set spawn protection time. We also tweaked some of the rings and spawns based on beta feedback. We will evaluate how these settings work best for Social/Competitive playlists.

A note about the Gnasher: We addressed several issues with the shotgun, specifically some issues with the spread, “one-shot downing”, headshots that shouldn’t register as headshots, and some other inconsistencies. Damage will remain similar to Gears 1. In general, all weapon damage/balance should remain consistent with the feel of the original Gears of War.

A note about the Longshot: A lot of you have commented on removing the active down on the Longshot. Some really like it, some don’t. Please be aware that although active downs has been removed, the Longshot still receives an active damage boost (still does a lot of damage to a player) and also reduces bloom/aim error on active reload. We believe these changes will still keep the Sniper as a strong power weapon (in internal playtests the Sniper is very powerful and played for power weapon on maps). This setting is not toggle-able in private matches, but Actives ON/OFF are available to toggle but please be aware the active ON for Longshot will be for the damage bonus and aim bonus on active reload. As always, we do listen to your feedback so after the game comes out and the community gets a chance to play and test out these changes, we will look at any adjustments that are needed based on feedback.

Some information on additional bugs we fixed: we minimized the DBNO teleporting bug and DBNO double revive animation, world glitching, some bugs with alternate control scheme, invisible player and multiplayer players per team issues, issue where players were sometimes unable to pick up weapons, and hundreds of other bugs and issues thanks to your feedback and help 🙂

Thanks again for playing the beta and we look forward to you trying these out in the game at launch and please continue to give us your feedback and we will continue to listen! Thank you 🙂

Wow, they have fixed or tweaked pretty much every problem I saw in the beta. These guys are on top of their game! Stoked for August 25th to get here!

  7. July 9, 2015 4:29 pm

Yes, the changes and then the promise to support. Never has Gears been marketed this way. Ever.

And this is COG that I want to play as.

Shit just got even more real! Rod Fergusson has officially confirmed at today’s San Diego Comic Con panel that every new XB1 console will now be bundled with Gears UE. MS is making it a complete no-brainier for new console adopters! http://majornelson.com/2015/07/09/gears-of-war-ultimate-edition-bundle-and-behind-the-scenes-video-unveiled-at-comic-con/

More news from the SDCC panel also confirmed that Horde mode will not be in Gears UE. The campaign will run at 30fps while the MP will be at 60fps.

    • July 9, 2015 9:05 pm

      What that means is……FODDER!

And that the game will be populated. At least every new Xbox owner, for a while anyway, will have the game. That goes a long way to increasing the population of the community!

      System seller FTW!

(Makes me wish I had waited.) lol

But then you wouldn’t have had the year and a half of our party chat visits, Suns! 😢

    • July 9, 2015 11:54 pm

You are right. It was all about staying in touch for me. Definitely worth the price of admission.

It is just I would love to have that feeling of buying it now and thinking I got a great bargain – 150 bucks less plus it has GEARS! (then again, I wouldn’t have believed that GoW was fixed without playing the beta.)

And for those who haven’t watched this yet.

Idly considering getting this title, as it sounds like you guys will be playing it for a while. I don’t know. Evolve was supposed to be the MP game I could find a friendly game with someone any night for this year, at least. And despite all of the people I played with in the first couple weeks, it didn’t make it another two months.

Not blaming anyone, I just miss my personal Borderlands 1/Bad Company 2 glory days, when I could play for hours every night with a rotation of different friends for over a year. You can tell me Ultimate Edition will stick around, but will it truly??

    • July 10, 2015 11:43 am

I’ve been pretty hooked on Destiny lately. This is a game that Luke and I enjoy together. BF4 is always on my radar. Hit me up when you are in the mood.

I think Gear UE will have legs for a long time. First off, you and I can co-op the campaign. One of the best co-op games I’ve ever played.

MP with “The Stranded” will likely be an every weekend thing for the foreseeable future.

Gears MP is very “in your face” and fast paced action. Not really your cup of tea, but I think it’s worth the $40.00 and the time it takes to get decent at it. Playing the Campaign will be a good start.

      Bottom line: “Get It!!” 🙂

  9. July 10, 2015 3:44 pm

Herandar, first of all, glad you got into the Preview Program. As soon as I got home, I requested an invite for you (after Blank). I think multiple invites also speeds things up.

Now, as regards GoW:UE, since BF:BC2, I have had too many let downs to promise that we will be playing this for a long time.

Having said that, this community, what few are left, is called “The Stranded” after a people in the game story. The original Gears was what we played almost exclusively for 2 full years, and kept going back to since, in spite of the pain of all the brokenness. This is that game fixed. I think it is going to be a keeper for me, especially if we can find the numbers to fill a room. One of the things works with this game is splitting up and rotating the players based on ability. Which is to say, it doesn’t matter if you have mad skillz or are ever-noob, from AAA to DDDD, there is a place for you.

Feel free to wait with buying for a month, if you want. The disappointments have invariably reared their ugly head within four weeks.

Here is my purchase plan for the next 18 months (in % chance of purchase) which will disrupt GoW:UE play.

Note: * means K/D is very important, but I can’t buy a kill so “NO”.

Destiny 0% because art work and *.
BF4 0% because of the maps that cause * (CTE doesn’t offer enough new maps to fix that)

    Gears of War:UE 100% chance
Gigantic 100% to try the free game. 30% chance to continue playing because *
    Rainbow Six:Seige 20%
Halo 5 50% because of Warzone (12v12 with environment)
Star Wars Battlefront 40% it is a new BF game that might be good.
The Division 90% (but only because most here are sold on it, even after E3)
PvZ:GW2 100% and I will play a lot of it, even just the Graveyards mode.
    Gears 4 100% (I would pre-order it today, if I could.)

I believe that is a fairly true indicator of how my interest will be divided. Because of the timezones, I won’t be able to join during the week. I may end up playing quite a bit of GoW:UE during the week with Cornie, but that will always be in the middle of the night for you.
