Star Wars Battlefront Official Trailer

April 17, 2015

Watching Daredevil late into the night (still not finished), I tried to stay up for the official unveil. Didn’t make it. Thankfully, Zos stepped in with the link, now embedded above. Enjoy!

Editor’s note: One thing is for certain, DICE/EA didn’t put the same resources on Hardline as they did on Battlefront. LOL

Update: Engadget has an “Interview/Preview” that is helpful in understanding what the game is about.

Update2: Official site with gameplay info here, and coverage by Game Informer here.

I have now watched the trailer twice. Once while eating breakfast and hurriedly writing the post above. The second time just now, after I arrived at work and settled in. (Nobody in the library right now.)

Two things impressed me. The animations of the characters are beautiful, as they have been since BF3. Secondly, they appear to be bringing the crazily complex ability/weapon/vehicle BF signature gameplay into the Star Wars universe. In the words of Darth Vader, “Impressive”. Having said that, it is all a matter of bugs, exploits, and “broken”: to what extent will it be full of this. EA, and probably most other publisher games cannot, should not be pre-ordered*.

I will grant them these two admissions. They continue, even 18 months later, to meaningfully support BF4. Second, they are, to be sure, not the only ones who have shipped utter rubbish. Payday 2 is still high frequency, critical-crash broken and it is almost 3 years old now. Evolve, only a few months old, similarly crashes almost as often as it provides full games, and that is after waiting minuteS x2 for the game to set up and the map to load.

No, the biggest problem with this new DICE game won’t even be the bugs and breaks, it will be the “fun”. BF4 for console, is plagued with too many players and maps too large.

Now, for the official page game info,

Ground based combat on a galactic scale” (i.e., “up to 40 players“) Admittedly better than 64.

    and this (much more intriguing):

    FOR JEDI AND PADAWANS ALIKE

Seamlessly swap between 1st person and 3rd person perspectives.

Partner up with a friend in online multiplayer, share unlocks and have each other’s backs on the battlefront.

Fight for the Empire or Republic offline, solo or with a friend, in carefully crafted missions.

    * Here is another interesting thing:
Available as a free† download to all players on December 8th, 2015

This is a first for EA, and feels like they are finally learning that this pre-order bonus shit just splinters communities.

Thanks for gathering the info Suns! Another thing to look at is the original Battlefront games. They were huge in their own time, and had a lot of larger scale combat (if I recall, this was only 24 players).

One disappointing missing feature is “space battles” actually dog fighting in space (from what I read) wont be in the game day 1. These were a lot of fun in the last game.

Yes, I don’t see anything about dogfights in the black of space. Interesting. They could actually tack that on in the name of a flight trainer. How hard is it to create a black box?! LOL

OT in one of the reddit threads, they have pictures of Storm Troopers and Jar Jar to vote up or down respectively, the karma of the thread!!! LMAO!

They also have a DICE producer in there answering questions.

I just read some press articles indicating that the devs told the press that some of the gameplay demos behind closed doors were running on PS4. Nobody really noted any visual difference between trailer and this footage, so I find it kind of hard to believe. Needless to say, lets hope PS4/Xb1 gets close to the fidelity they are showing now.

XBL is pooched so I am going to finish Daredevil tonight. I don’t know if I will be able to make it on tomorrow or not. Have a good weekend guys. ❤

If Hardline is any indication, xboxone will not see those graphics. Hardline is 720p on xbox one. However the SP did look better.

I still have my Battlefront 2 copy, I have been waiting for this for a long time. Could never transfer my xbox dlc to play Asajj Ventress with her nunchuck lightsabers.

All I want to do is drive AT-ATs all day. And not enough alien speech in the soldier banter- Where’s the Sullustan “Hell Yeah!!” after taking out that AT-ST?? Fun story, my cousin drove across the country with a cassette of all of the alien dialogue from the original trilogy. He can still do many of them spot on.

Also, Caspar David Friedrich’s ‘Wanderer above the Sea of Fog’ has been adapted into the official game artwork.

Funny, because it was the dialogue for me too, that caught my attention in the trailer. The almost unending use of new, fresh, funny context appropriate banter in BF3 (and BF4) was a source of surprising enjoyment while playing those games. Sometimes it made me burst out laughing. It would indeed be cool if they could supply the alien languages (though it wouldn’t be very helpful for information).

Tangentially related, one of my favorite aspects of Daredevil is the use of foreign languages. Though it may actually not be perfect (the Japanese was pretty badly done in some places) I don’t care. That they tried at all is totally awesome!

Hey, I watched the first two episodes of Daredevil. Very well done. I like it and think I’ll keep watching it.

Battlefront was one of the first games I played with the kids. A LOT of fun times we had doing that.

Okay, I’ll stop driving AT-ATs for the Empire if I can be a Wookiee.

Since there seems to be some enthusiasm, I will continue updating as opportunity allows. Here is the first Dev Diary.

And OT, but also space battle related:

I really enjoyed the certain aspects of the Halo 5 Beta, all the new combat and the new map Empire, and that new Arena gametype (even though I was horrific at it). If it weren’t so demanding of mad skillz (and the redone maps weren’t so awful), I would be very excited about that game.

    ot:

Payday 2: Crime Wave Edition. not sure what it will bring new.

    • April 21, 2015 12:24 am

Ha ha ha Those dudes first need to patch the 360 version so that it works without crashing every other round. Then, they need to apologize BY giving all customers who purchased PD2 the Crime Wave Edition wrapped in more apologies.

I am curious, is it coming to the One?

Overkill and Gearbox have similar balls, made of brass and they clang loudly!

EDIT: And another ha ha ha at the great Metallica cover find below!

    • April 21, 2015 12:35 am

yeah it’s for all platforms. including 360/one.
