Joe Montana Football 16

March 16, 2015

I didn’t realize that there was a “first party publisher” loophole in the NFL video game licensing.  Well, there is, and according to an insider not bound by an NDA, Joe Montana Football 16 will be good.  Published by Microsoft, developed by 2K, exclusive to Xbox and Windows 10.  Go Spencer!  He is the new Moore.  Finally someone to trust and get behind.

-The graphics, animations and AI are all obscenely good and modern. It looks like a game that was built for this new generation, not just a port over from last generation with a ton of sloppy tweaks. The animations are easily the most crisp of any sports game ever made. Comparing the animations to Madden, it’s going make Madden look like a PS1 game by comparison. This is going to be embarrassing for EA Tiburon, like The Show Vs MLB 2K and NBA 2K vs NBA Live embarrassing.

– Expect Joe Montana NFL Football 16 out in Mid-late July.

My impressions is that this rumor-spreader is a plant.  Regardless, competition is always a good thing.

Hardline had me laughing out loud and enjoying the exchanges. I don’t think Battlefield has been this fun since the first time I played Operation Metro and the old BC2 days.

What I like the most is that vehicles are fun and rewarding but not overpowering. There’s Anti-Air weapon spawns to ensure helicopters don’t win it all.

Maps are Small but multi layered. So there’s plenty of choke points and flanking.

The game changer may be the grappling hooks and ziplines. I still haven’t tested them out, but that can cut distance or verticality.

There’s less sniping and less camping for now. This just straight fast pace action, the best part is all objective modes are tailored for this.

I’m not sure what to make of the packs yet. On one hand you have a less linear progression and if you get lucky can indeed unlock a good weapon without grinding a specific amount, but if unlucky some unlocks will be like chasing the dragon.

So with that on the table I am going to hit 1.4 million on GTA V, buy the armored car with the turret, declare victory for now and put some serious time on Hardline.

I went in for Hotwire but Heist (a ctf variant), Blood Money and Small Conquest (24 player!), round it up nicely.

game still looks fugly and controls don’t match Destiny/CoD, but in Battlefield standards I think it is much better than 4. (Granted I never liked 64players)

I think that’s enough for now, if it lasts then I may consider Premium.

Thanks for the impressions, Frenik. Yes, my biggest problems with BF4 were too many players and the maps. The other problem would be the unlocks, which may or may not be fixed with this. If/When it comes on sale, I may consider it. I look forward to hearing more about it after another couple of weeks.
