Evolve: Observer Mode

March 4, 2015

Official Post here, it is for a 6th person. I was hoping that we could have several observers for a single game, but I will take what I can get. It looks good! The HUD for info is especially cool! This is the cinematic experience of the game that you don’t even get when playing it.

My body is ready. Now for some concrete news about the upcoming fourth tier hunters & Behemoth… Hopefully, TRS will announce something at PAX East.

Gold Monster skins for everyone that plays Evolve starting 9:00 PM PT on Thursday, March 5th thru 9:00 PM PT on Sunday, March 8th! These skins were previously only available for TRS employees until now. They’re paying it forward to the community by rewarding anyone that jumps on for a few games with these exclusive skins:

TRS will have numerous community events for Evolve. Their next one will be a St. Patrick’s Day Trappers challenge. It looks like they’ve found a way to circumvent 2K’s DLC paywall. 😀

Did anyone get their skins? Had to uninstall to make room for Halo again, So I can’t check anymore until I am done with some of the big games.

Also GTA heists is live but servers crashed, lol.

Trying to rush and finish some games before Hardline and Borderlands come out, until I can make space by completing games I will not have room for Evolve.

Frenik, I haven’t checked since I fulfilled the requirements on the weekend. I don’t care too much either way, because you can bet I won’t be rockin’ a gold skin if/when I play the monster!

Hey, let us know your impressions of GTA Heist when you have actually had a chance to play it. Also, since you are getting Hardline, give us a comparison and let us know what you think!

Played one game and it wasn’t a positive experience. The setup is a separate mission and then the heist itself. The problem is I got disconnected with just 2 people on the mission, but luckily it was over both times.

One thing I like is that there are roles in the heist like in the single player but I can’t say how they were since I only got driver and crowd control and it wasn’t much different from robbing a liquor store.

The other guy was hacking while I drove and drilling the vault once we got to the bank.

Couldn’t win the mission because the random guy decided to shoot a civilian right before we could have made a clean gateway. Then I got disconnected before the restart.

I’m just going to wait until the servers are stable and/or can play with people from my crew in case it disconnects.

However if I manage to get a good game, it might be worth it because the payoff is 40-60k on that starter mission which is not bad to cut down the grinding. It wasn’t that long.

If there are better paying missions then I can probably get a tank before Hardline is released.

It’s time to get an external HDD, Frenik! I picked up a 3TB WD My Book in November for $110, and I’m very happy with my purchase so far. I haven’t had to uninstall anything since then. The USB 3.0 is much faster than the SATA internal drive. Every little thing helps to make the game & asserts load faster. Check out Amazon & pick one up because the prices are very reasonable & have come down by quite a bit.

Two maps, Broken Hill Mine and Broken Hill Foundry, are scheduled to be released on March 31 for the Xbox One due to MS’ one month exclusivity. It will head to the PS4 & PC on April 30. The maps will take place below the planet’s surface in Ming caves. All maps & game modes are free & will most likely follow the upcoming Observer mode.

The maps look cool! Good stuff.

And as if to confirm that their free maps/free gametypes is model of the future, Respawn Entertainment is saying that they want to go the same route for Titanfall 2.

“One thing Zampella was keen to think about changing was the DLC model for the future, citing Evolve’s commitment to keeping the community united via free maps for all as the ideal way forward.

“I think that’s a fantastic way to do it,” he said. “I think having the maps like that in packs, it does split the community and it makes it harder for matchmaking, it’s messy. Yeah. I don’t know we won’t do it again, I can’t say that for sure, but the idea would be to do something different.””

This is especially good news because the new consoles are just establishing their install bases and to split up the few people playing a game because some players don’t have the maps is almost certainly a death blow to any game. From the beginning, I was hoping devs and publishers would see that this is really in their best interest.

I watched today’s TRS live stream on Twitch, & they previewed the two new maps. They will also be worked into the Evacuation game mode as well. One cool Monster power-up is the ability to dip your hand into the molten ore & every melee attack will have a damage bonus until the effect wears off. There are also one map effect mentioned such as earthquake tremors which will scare every bird flock making it difficult to pinpoint the monster’s whereabouts.

Chloe (aka D00mKitty), Evolve producer, sneakily commented that shield drones in the maps reminds her of something familiar. I think that the 4th Tier Support hunter will have the ability to send out shield drones to protect his/her team. Pretty cool, but I think that my Bionic Commando arm/grapple hook would have been better. Also, all paid DLC (skins/hunters/monsters) are NOT subject to the XB1 30-day exclusivity agreement. Only maps & modes are subject to the one month exclusivity, regardless that they’re free as confirmed my TRS’ lead tester, MajorLeeHype.

Thanks for the info, Kenny. What I like especially is that there seem to be qualitative additions: molten ore damage bonus, earthquake bird scares. These affect gameplay and it could be just the tip of the iceberg. I expect in both new content, and gameplay modes, things could get pretty creative (and fun). They have created a wonderful universe that just needs stabilization and some TLC.
