Hardline Beta Feb 3rd to 8th

I will be trying this if I have any time during the beta to do so. Free games are free games, even if only for a week. Hilarious, some of the footage doesn’t just look familiar, it looks like locations right out of BF4. I sure feel like BF4 did damage to the franchise, similar to that of Aliens:Colonial Marines and the Aliens IP.

The only thing that got me excited in this video was the tracer dart. Loved those things in BFBC2,

I like the cqc aspect of Hardline. Does the Beta include the HD pack? Because this seriously looks like Battlefield 3.

I like the gameplay but man does the game not look Next-Gen at all. Zombies in Dying Light have more detail than the entire map on Hardline. 🙈

Okay, so I was watching footage once the embargo lifted, and I thought the one thing that this game has that isn’t in BF4 is the driving. That is not at all in BF4, and Hardline has it in spades. So I figured I would give the Hotwire mode for a spin. And it is, in most respects, a blast to play. It’s the reason for me to pick up the game eventually. I don’t plan on playing any conquest in the beta, and I might try the heists, but, oh the quick sweet chaos that is Hotwire. Check my clips in Upload, the game has recorded over 20 of them, and one clip is my four minutes of driving to stay alive. (I finally got sniped when I hopped out to repair my damaged car, since the passengers were just tourists.

Perks: The driving is intuitive, and handles well and appropriately for all vehicles. Getting out of the car and shooting from the windows is smooth, and not a shaky frustration like it could be.
Classes/Teams are distinct, and there isn’t the linear grind to unlock weapons. To get the gun/gadget you want, you save up your earned in-game currency. You can’t use Police weapons when you are a criminal and vice-versa.

Problems: There some sort of lag issue still. It’s subtle, but even I noticed it when driving on straightaways, and I can just see it on clips when I’m looking for it. The car seems to catch on something for a moment, and repeatedly. Not game-breaking by any stretch, but it’s there.
Quick match seemed put me in a squad join mode with a random. Meaning I couldn’t change squads at all.
Spawn points. If you don’t have any empty seats on occupied vehicles, the only option is to start on foot at your base, which is far away when walking. This one is only conditionally a problem. It’s mainly exacerbated by the next problem, which is…
PEOPLE DON’T UNDERSTAND HOW TO PLAY HOTWIRE. The way to score points is to keep moving in the cars that are designated as capture points. You have to be moving at speed to capture. Unless you are driving the semi, you really don’t want to drive into the other cars. And it is better to evade pursuit than actively seeking out the other team. Eh, some people will learn, while others will think every mode is a deathmatch.

To sum up: If you are going to play the Beta, try the Hotwire. And get a repair tool. They are fairly cheap.

Thanks for the impressions, guys. I was chatting with Grymmie in party last night and he was loving Hotwire and Heist. I will definitely be giving the Beta a spin. My attention and dollars, however are all for Evolve.

Addendum: I love Battlefield Moments, but the automated clip recorder is a bit nuts for the Beta. I am now level 36, exclusively from playing Hotwire, and the game has recorded OVER 100 clips, many of them longer than the standard :30. That is too many to parse, and I’ve started deleting them without review. It’s caused all of my old unsaved clips to be deleted. And honestly, driving in circles for four minutes, avoiding the other cars does not make for very exciting footage.

Still running into a mix of people that get the mode and those that fail miserably. A lot of the games end up lopsided. Was killed several times by this one sniper over the course of a few games. He would always pick a location off in the outskirts of the map that lined up with a straightaway, and pick off drivers when they were on that small stretch of road. The one game when I looked at his stats, he went 7-0, and the only reason his score wasn’t at the bottom of his team was because someone had joined late. I’ve gotten more MVPs in this Beta than in all the time I’ve played BF4… (Though Hotwire is capped at 16 v 16.)

Suns, I’m not getting this at launch. After BF4’s launch, despite how much fun I’m having in this Beta, it’s still not something that I would consider. I have BF4 for my Conquest fix, and still have a few friends that will play it with me. (Including Kenai, I hope, if we ever get on at the same time.) I will probably get it after a while, but I did pre-order Evolve.

I’m still your wingman. I have the beta downloaded, but didn’t have time or energy last night. I’ll be on tonight!

Regarding buying this game. I’ll play the beta first before I make any judgement, but gotta admit that I am in no hurry for Hardline. I generally roll as the Stranded rolls. I thought “we’d” be playing more BF4, but that didn’t happen. I see the same thing happening with Hardline. So if I want my Battlefield “fix”, I’ve got plenty of miles left with BF4.

The future is looking like Evolve, Destiny and some eventual surprise. Will the surprise be Hardline? I wouldn’t hold my breath or place any pre-orders on that bet….

Thanks, Guys. Two thumbs up for limiting the player count to 16v16. Two thumbs down for the snipers. All the rest, understood.

Right now, barring surprises, my game purchasing schedule is Evolve, The Division, and probably Rainbow Six:Siege, with new pinball tables sprinkled in for seasoning.

I played with Herandar last night. Hotwire! Fun fun game type. We were Starskey and Hutch rolling and mowing. Herandar was mvp pretty much every game.

Love the radio stations (ala bc2).

Gameplay is very crisp. I tried a few games of Hiest. A spin on Rush.

16 v 16 is key. Maps are gorgeous.

Not sure it is a must buy, but it is on my radar if I’m looking for a “weeknight” game to play.
