Dying Light

Horrible timing, but this may be that surprise title that grabs by the short hairs and doesn’t let go for six months. Whatever it might be, it is going to have to get in line and then offer itself up cheap.

    I am grabbing it at some point after release. It has a zombie mode and a zombie mp as a dlc. Depending on how those look I will grab it.

    It’s the same day that Exo-Zombies comes out for Advanced Warfare, with John Malkovich, Bill Paxton, and the guy from walking dead. So it might be zombie overkill, but they are different games.

    We (Zos, Grymm, rED, & me) were remotely interested in this & then more details were shown at E3. Well, we quickly jumped off that ship. It seems way too similar to Dead Island which was chock full of fetch missions. Yeah, they made the zombies turn into super zombies when dark fell, but that’s not enough. Um sorry, that’s not necessarily next/current-gen in open world games anymore. Who knows? If it gets cheap enough, we might bite.

    Bought it, supposedly the “Be a zombie” mode is free regardless of the pre-order or DLC.

    Game is slow paced during day time and becomes freaking insane at night. This is not Dead Rising 3, zombies are a little tougher at night kinda thing.

    The other thing is Night time makes moving much harder, can’t see crap, and makes you use light, flashlights differently, because the light attracts all the hyper hunter zombies to you.

    I have to say that I am glad to pull the trigger. Sure this is a polished Dead Island without the stupid music and story, but right now could make a run for best zombie game. If only it wasn’t mainly melee based….

    They made some co-op on the fly challenges, like Crackdown 2. Which is neat and gives added xp. Playing solo mostly but that would be an incentive to play with randoms.

    But the main attraction for me is “Be the zombie”. It features similar abilities to left 4 dead, and it’s 1 v 4.

    Haven’t played it yet, but man it might be an alternative to evolve.

    It’s not from the ground up co-op versus, but it has more stuff to do with the environment. Too early to tell…

    Played “Be The Zombie” mode. Man it is fun. It’s not like Evolve where you have to hatch and plan around a lot at the beginning. You are basically a badass from the start and whatever skills you aquire are available at all times.

    In a twist to it, you are actually on defense. You have to prevent humans from destroying nests, which is good because otherwise being a zombie would be an op machine, and not be any big strategy behind it.

    Just like Evolve, movement is key and not gething caught with UV Lights is the main thing since it drains your abilities and slows you down.

    You have to time pounces, ground pounds, etc. So is very satisfying to pull those off and own other players.

    Since it’s not like Left 4 Dead and be mainly a shooter game, you have plenty of windows of oportunity to move around and attack without being shot down easily, which helps in coverless areas.

    The only drawback is that it’s an mp only mode. As soon as the nests are done, the match is done and you have to invade another game. No SP. Only a tutorial/practice area is provided.

    As soon as I spawn for the first time in Be The Zombie I got a double pounce

    This will never happen again, as people master the game.

    The SP is full of fetch quests, but there’s also more stuff to do in the map. You can clear safe houses, go to airdrops or just randomly scavenge and clear monsters or enemy humans.

    There’s random events like rescuing humans, etc.

    Very underrated game. I am getting close to maxing out the character and to be able to do what is shown on the video and it’s completely worth full price.

    About half way through the game you unlock a new area of the game called Section 0.

    It’s basically a copy/paste of Assasins’ Creed maps. However once you unlock the grappling hook it just takes it too a whole new level (kinda like Just cause 2 with AC maps, plus Left 4 Deadish zombies with Crackdown 2 co-op challenges and Far Cryish Bad Guys, with sprinkles of GTA sandbox challenges)

    In other words “Techlands” is throwing all their favorite games into a blender for this game.

    I think only Sunset Overdrive has managed to throw in very different games on the blender as well as this one. However, Sunset for me is very niche, this game is more appealing and aside for it’s shooting side being underwhelming on purpose, it hits every other note almost better than the ones they are mimicking.

    The main difference for me is the sandbox side of things. I feel like I can go back to this game, set traps, play with the zombies and just have fun with it running around randomly with what is provided months from now.

    Dead Island on the other hand only had a purpose on the grind to level up. Once the game is beaten on normal and plus, it’s done. No random events to go back to. Only finishing the games in different characters.

    Surprisingly the SP has been fun enough that I haven’t touched the “Be the Zombie” mode. More on that soon.
