GTA Online: Heists Trailer

December 16, 2014

With a little added structure and some tightening up, this could be an awesome way to play in the sand box.  It has the potential to rival both Payday 2 and BF: Hardline, and since the game proper has been out for a while, most of the worst bugs should be gone.

Hmmm, I’ve been intrigued about the Heists mode ever since Rockstar announced that they’ve been working on it months & months ago. However, there still aren’t enough concrete details to warrant a purchase. Yet…

Yes, don’t mistake me. I am not recommending it (yet). We need more details, and, for example, while the helos and other vehicles may look cool from a spectator cam, controlling them in fight or flight is another issue. Again, it needs to have structure and the controls, HUD, and gameplay need to be tight (for lack of a better word). Anything less, and it is just another GTA chase mission. Yuck!

P.S. What do you think of the hockey mask on the YouTube embedded image? Is it calling you? 😉

This seems right on track with the heists from the Single Player portion which is what I wanted from the heist mode.

Basically there should be a planning stage where you would decide how to approach the heist (Guns Blazing or an alternate stealthier way).

Then a set up stage where you acquire the equipment necessary to start a heist, in the game it meant stealing vehicles, purchasing costumes, etc.

Finally you go in the heist which would require specific objectives depending on what path you chose to go with.

I would doubt they would stray from that on the multiplayer, the big difference being that in Single player you would switch on command back and forth with the three characters who usually had a specific objective or their special abilities would help a certain area.

So MP I am guessing if done right it would require teamwork to accomplish the objectives. I don’t foresee a complex set of chain of events and teamwork to get something done, like Destiny, since this mode is mainly to feed the global economy online, and bring something new to make it less of a grind, which is why this was held back until the re-release.

However with these many months in the works, Rockstar, may indeed unveil something more complex and worthy of more strategy.

Now if it works, the Heist mode goes beyond the mode itself. Many people, me included, didn’t want to go back in the grind for all the weapons, vehicles, etc. This provides that and then opens up the rest of the online play that was restricted by the tedious grind portion.

If you are interested in seeing the overall value of the game, within the online portion alone it is quite substantial in the sense that it brings, horde modes (survival), Co-op Missions (Very much like Red Dead), Free Roam mini-strike missions, as well as other random missions that show up.

Then there’s the versus portion which features regular shooter gametypes, as well as a competitive sort of co-op mission where you basically have to beat the other team from completing a mission. I wonder if this option will be added in Heist form…
As well as regular Free Roam mini events, etc. Custom Games you can activate from Free Roam.

Add to all this the player count of 30, and Clan features, and it’s quite a massive package without going in to the single player portion.

That doesn’t mean it’s for everyone but you will be hard pressed to find a better sandbox game that has all of those features, plus the gameplay, and that will have a dedicated fan base regardless of what is released from now until the next GTA release.

Plus they didn’t charge for any DLC, on the last release. I doubt they would charge anything on this one since this just helps get more players invested in the online world and they have microtransactions for ones that don’t want to grind.

If there’s any future DLC, it will probably follow the same business model.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this game sells more and is played more than many of the games that are out now, and the ones that will be released soon!

Thanks for the info, Frenik. GTA IV was in the top 10 of the 360 for as long as I can remember. Other, more flashy games, favorites even, came and went, but GTA held its audience.

Depending on the final details of Heist and who here picks it up, I will be very tempted to pick it up at a reduced price.

The video is from a mod I think, don’t have a video of the real thing yet.
