Watched this at work today. SO EXCITED

You know, there are two things that I don’t think can be overstated.

    1) These are the guys that gave us Left4Dead.

    2) This comes with full “bot” support right out of the box. Anyone can play this game by themselves, in any of the five positions (4 hunters/ 1 monster).

At one point in the video Phil Robb says he hopes it will be a game that three years later, people will still want to put in the tray. Even if the hardcore community can “see through walls” after three years, it will be fun because you can play alone with the bots and it makes sense, more so than L4D.

As a heads up, all Preview members get a code for the Alpha from Xbox. Check your messages if you haven’t gotten an email from Turtle Rock.

Nice, when does the alpha go live?

    • October 29, 2014 9:41 pm

      Sometime tomorrow (Oct. 30th).

Worth mentioning one alpha quirk: Max group size in the alpha is 4. They don’t want people playing against their friends and skewing the results.

    Herandar, thanks for the info!

I got my code, too. Will be downloading as soon as they let me. Can’t wait! (We have it downloaded on all three Ones. It goes live in 5.5 hours, though I won’t be getting up at 1am to play it because of work on Fri and Sat.)

I got my code! Beta is downloaded and ready to play tonight (And… ALL WEEKEND!!)

I’ve been “saving up” gaming time, so….. Here we go!

Been playing the Alpha for 4 hours. You guys will love this game. Team work is insanely important, even more than L4D. All of the classes seem extremely useful with exception to the Trapper, because I havent had a chance to try it yet. Assault and Medic are my favorites as of now. Enjoy it!

Robbins. I joined your game. How come u had no mic?!

Yeah, sorry about that, Jimmy! I had to leave about 30 minutes after I invited you, so I figured i’d get you in so you could check it out for the first time and we could beat up the monster quickly. Didnt want you to leave the game because of that! Next time i’ll be talking!

    • October 31, 2014 8:44 am

Robbins, No worries, I was trying to squeeze in a game (since you invited me). Once I saw you had no mic, I was talking with another guy in the game chat. He knew what he was doing. However, he was frustrated because our Trapper wasn’t throwing down a Trap, so he left. Once he dropped so did I….

I also dropped cause there was too much chaos going on in my house…

However, I’ll be on Tonight and all weekend!!! See you soon!

To the rest of the Stranded: I was out last night and by the time I got home, I was too tired. But it looked like you were all playing. How is it?!!! I literally played for less than 10 minutes and never really did anything.

But I loved what I saw.

So much so, that I moved my Xbox back to the family room for this weekend, so I can play it on the 60″ plasma. Whoot!!!

It is really well-done and polished. Ended up playing with randoms since The Stranded folk were already running four deep. Got two of them to talk eventually and it was a lot of fun, especially when communicating. Went back on this morning before work, and no one talked in the game I got in, and this group didn’t seem to have a clue. A couple of the guys just followed the tracks blindly, never catching up, and the medic kept engaging any wildlife that it saw, and lost a couple of those fights. Still, we sorted it out once the monster headed for the power relay.

Maps are smaller than I expected, but they seem a lot larger when I’m running around, getting somewhat lost in them. When any one of the players doesn’t know their role, it makes it much more difficult.

And my code didn’t work when I tried to redeem it. Sent an email to 2K at 8AM today, and haven’t heard anything back other than an automated response. Bet they’ll send me a new one Sunday night.

Anyone have an extra code for Herandar? (I didn’t know, but Johann had already used our extra on my machine. We had one, but it was used mistakenly.)

And thanks for the impressions, RoBBins!

No worries. Just got a new code.

This game is very fun and gorgeous. Definitely VERY alpha as well (regarding load times, match finding etc).

Once we got into several games, it was exactly what we were hoping, everyone has to play their class appropriately. We only lost one match from what I can remember (we spit into two groups of 2 accidentally). There have already been a lot of “lesson learned” moments.

The fact that the game is fun and working so far from release, is a great sign that we will be getting a new site favorite. The only limitation I can see is the max room size of 5 people (4 in chat at a time). I’m interested if there will be additional game types with larger player counts before release.

    This guy is fun.

I have watched hours of Cornie and Johann playing because it is fun even just watching (and the third Xbox is packed away). Yes, there are crazy load times and waits, but the game itself is worth it. I played one match as support (Hank?) and had a great time. Brought down a couple of airstrikes and did lots of damage with my main gun. We had taken the Goliath down to under a minute and a half left, but the randoms I was with decided to take the fight to him. And, we lost. The roots of L4D are evident (wacky attacks and controls), but there are more options for all involved. I think it is going to prove to be an incredibly deep game.

I am really looking forward to the Beta and the full release.
