Two System Updates Before Titanfall

February 5, 2014

imageThere is a bunch of news today. Microsoft is planning on dropping two updates – February 11 and March 4 – before what they are anticipating will be “the biggest game launch of the year”, Titanfall. I tend to agree with them on the “biggest launch” point, and I am relieved that their second update is more than a week before Titanfall arrives. Microsoft has released a few details on the updates, which will include better Kinect voice recognition and full access to storage and battery info. Sounds like a DICE update, “We tweaked the guns for better balance”. Meanwhile, everything else is broken.

Microsoft also says that there is more and that they have “several surprises in store” that they think we’ll “love”. One can only hope that it will include some party chat app improvements.

Also, on the topic of Titanfall, Zampella has been busy dropping tidbits on his Twitter and TotalXbox has the round up here. Apparently, the date for the beta isn’t determined yet. The rumor is the 14th, but Zampella says that isn’t for sure yet.

Party chat fixes are coming in the March 4th update. To me, it seems as though they’re remaking Parties and Game Lobbies.

And as for Titanfall, it’s a closed beta. Yipee.

How is a closed Beta good? To me it seems like it would just potentially cock-block some of us here.

BTW, thanks for the image, Blank! LOL

Totally agree Suns, but rationally it’s a good idea for Respawn. Zam(high-and-mighty)pella said that they will be doing it in waves, so they’ll have control of incoming players and overall playability. It’ll most likely be similar to the CoD4 beta, I would think.

Yeah. My cock was already blocked with the first one…. My Titan has yet to fall!!!

Titanfall for the 360 has been delayed until March 25th because Bluepoint Games needs an extra two weeks for polish. I wonder how many of those 360 owners will make the jump to the One instead of waiting the extra two weeks? Sneaky move, EA/Respawn/MS. I hope that the real reason isn’t because the 360 & One versions look too similar to each other. Otherwise, you know that the Sony fanboys will be jumping all over that despite the fact that they won’t be seeing the first game on their console. Ever.

      VERY OT

Blank, why did Shacknews have their “last” Weekend Confirmed podcast? What’s happening to the crew?

Garnett Lee was burning both ends of the candle with game development and serving as editor for Shacknews. He finally decided to start a “new chapter” in his life and concentrate on game development full-time (100%). Therefore, something had to give and it was Weekend Confirmed. Garnett was very emotional on the last episode. He thanked all of the listeners for supporting the podcast for the last four years and during the 1Up podcast days. Garnett was very gracious and felt torn because he still believes that he “owes the listeners.” The guy’s passion toward gaming and the industry really made his podcasts enjoyable. The WC crew may still carry on with the podcast, but they’ve lost a major component that made it so successful. They are currently taking a hiatus from podcasting. The podcasts were a great listen, and you’ve heard me mention them on several occassions throughout these past years.

Thanks, Kenny. I didn’t know the story behind it. I didn’t listen to the podcast, but I enjoyed his appearances on the Gametrailers panels. Also, I noticed the announcement and watched the vid of his farewell to WC, but there was no info as to what and why. Do you know what company he is a part of?
