The Last of Us: Death and Choices

May 20, 2013

After Blankman’s heads-up on some gameplay videos, I did a little peeking around and discovered Naughty Dog just released another Developer Diary.  The tool/weapon crafting is really cool, but doesn’t impress me as much as the voice acting and storytelling as evidenced in the gameplay vids.  I cannot see how a fan of zombies won’t consider this to be one of the most important productions in the genre.  It is just a crying shame that Naughty Dog is Sony PlayStation exclusive.  Really, for all concerned except Sony, it is tragic.

Agreed on the exclusivity = tragedy comment. Naughty Dog has gone on record that everyone will be blown away by the MP component of the game. there are rumors that players will be able to control the infected in another player’s “single” player game. If the rumors are indeed true, my jaw will be on the floor.

Geoff Keighley may have spoiled the game when he interviewed the two lead designers on his show.

Keighley had asked them how far along in the story it was that they demoed, & they responded by saying that it was a third of the way through. Keighley then makes the comment, “So, it’s after Joel turns…” Cue awkward silence. Keighley tries to make up for it with a “Just kidding” save followed by uneasy laughter. WTF?!? Is Naughty Dog going to ape Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead? My daughter was bawling her eyes out when Lee’s end game transpired. Dude, let’s not copy another successful “zombie” story by hijacking their climatic ending. I seriously hope that Keighley is wrong, but something tells me he hit the nail on the head. Argh!!!

Affecting another person’s “SP” campaign, in any game, is an obvious but mostly heretofore untried possibility. If Naughty Dog offers it, deep respect goes out to them. I would want to buy a PS3 just to mess with Kenny’s experience. LOL Seriously, it would be very cool.

LMAO at Keighley if he actually let the cat out of the bag. The show isn’t live though, is it? They should have had time to edit that out if they wanted to. As for characters turning in zombie fiction, that’s what they do. It is almost more of a “twist” if they don’t, isn’t it? Regardless, the production values of this game are sky high and will at least help a little to make up for a less-than-original plot.

      Wasn’t that a feature of Demon’s Souls/Dark Souls?

Never played either of those games, and that is why I said “mostly”.
