For Whom The Bell Tolls

April 10, 2013

I always enjoy Extra Credits, but this particular episode is quite profound. Citing John Donne‘s Meditation XVII, it shines the spotlight on the excellence in storytelling in Telltale’s The Walking Dead game (and by association Left4Dead) and focuses on the themes of morality and humanity presented to the gamer. Much as I dislike the Zombie movie genre, this short show further convinces me that there can hardly be a better setting for a game than a world in which the living are desperately struggling to survive the waking/walking dead. All other settings and “choices” presented in video games just seem so much contrived horse shit, and none of them provide a logical and acceptable explanation for the violence with which you are expected to participate.
