Crowd Funding – Do It Yourself?

October 12, 2012

IndieGames describes a very exciting development in Crowd Funding – bypassing the middle man. The trailblazers are Introversion Software with Prison Architect.

One of the things that has always bothered me about many of the Kickstarter projects is that upon receipt of the money, if certain hurdles cannot be passed, the project people promise to give the money back. Where will they get the money to do that after Kickstarter has taken its percentage? It is a promise they cannot fulfill, yet Kickstarter doesn’t force them to change the wording of their proposal. Well, when you actually receive all the funds without sharing any with a middle man, that kind of promise, in theory, can be fulfilled. Of course! Who needs Kickstarter? Do it yourself! If you have a good proposal, and something to actually market (even just some concept gameplay videos), find free web hosting and away you go!
