MoTW: Lawless With Gary Oldman

August 22, 2012

Lawless is based on the historical novel, The Wettest County in the World, and tells the real-life story of the Bondurant brothers and the moonshine trade in Depression and Prohibition-era Virginia.

Gary Oldman plays a supporting role as a gangster. Like Clint Eastwood (and good Scotch), he just gets better with age. Tom Hardy and Shia LaBeouf star as two of the brothers. Tom Hardy is fast becoming my latest favorite tough guy, and in the same way that I came to respect, though never really look forward to Leonardo DiCaprio, I may grow to not dread Shia LaBeouf. For better or worse, this will be a turning point in his career.

The novel is described as being “extremely graphic“, and the movie promises to unflinchingly follow the book. It seems to me that Lawless will be to Dukes of Hazzard what the GTA series is to Super Mario.

On that note, the Red Band Trailer is embedded after the jump.

Guy Pierce is in it too! Fantastic actor. I highly recommend the movie, “The Proposition.” He did a fantastic job.

This movie looks amazing. Shia LaBeouf is a huge turnoff, but the rest of the cast looks great. And agreed on the Tom Hardy comment, he goes all in to a role and does a great job at performing that role. I’ll keep this on my radar.
