BF3 HD Destruction Demo

May 29, 2012

The other day, Joey was asking about the HD destruction for the upcoming Close Quarters BF3 DLC(Hit this link for actual gameplay). I don’t know how this is going to translate to the 360, but there will be some difference between the current situation and what is offered in the DLC.

Basically, all impact effects from bullets in Close Quarters are new. They are also rapid, more violent and contain a lot more debris than earlier. Every bullet fired will now spawn ~50 particles upon impact, from the previous ~10. How can we afford this from a performance standpoint? That’s where our optimization work comes into play, making sure that all the extra debris will only spawn if it’s close you to, with a cap on how much debris can exist in the world at any one time.Official Blog

Even more than the destruction, I am just looking forward to playing on four new tight maps. Johann and I (mostly Johann) continue to tear it up on an almost nightly basis.

P.S. For a great laugh, take a peek at this game summary and see who got “Aim King” Bwahahaahahahaha (I was running around as recon, but with my Saiga 12K! LMAO!)

After playing Ghost Recon which is sort of a blend of Gears and Battlefield now, the one thing I missed the most was destruction. You can’t be sitting behind a near perfect car and feel safe that it will not blow up, or how static the map in general feels when things do not get broken. It just doesn’t feel realistic. Granted that I still love BC2’s C4 and obliterating entire buildings a little bit more than BF3’s limited destruction, but yeah it makes a difference in the immersion of the game to have this.

Hey, this is just a heads-up.

The code for our theme appears to have been updated and broken. I am hopeful that it will be fixed soon. I didn’t do it, but I have changed the background color to white so that we can at least read our posts, until it is patched.

Ready to blow stuff up. Haven’t gamed in almost 2 weeks… Going through withdrawals… Gonna try and get on tonight if I have enough energy. When is the DLC coming? I know it’s June something or other.

Update: Just saw that Dice posted on facebook: Details coming: June 4th

Thanks for the heads-up, Kenai. I was hoping that announcement was going to be made before E3, but I guess not.

I won’t be on at all this weekend. Prefectural Tournament, counting on the boys to win, or at least make second place which will secure a spot for them in the Nationals being held in our city this summer.

J and T won’t be on either as they are goin’ on a road trip to Tokyo takin’ the midnight buses for a couple days with their friends.

Have a great weekend, Guys! ❤

UPDATE: Joystiq has the details on the BF3 Premium.

    So, we already have Karkand.

Johann and I continue to play and love this game, so chances are, we will be getting it. For those who aren’t as fully captivated by the game as us, I recommend just getting the Close Quarters (2nd) expansion pack if the reviews are solid. The 3rd pack, Armored Kill, will apparently have the biggest maps yet, and as such, could prove to be incredibly yawn inducing in Conquest and Rush modes. Having said that, one of the most enjoyable Squad Deathmatch maps in BC2 was Heavy Metal. So, the main game modes may not be fun, but the alternative modes may be.

Anyway, Joystiq makes some good points about the pack, though I don’t know to what extent the queue priority thing, for example, would affect our gaming either way. We almost never queue. In fact, the queue only holds one or two players anyway and has thus far proved itself almost completely useless. Hmmmm…
